General Notes: Sailed to American with his father in the Winthrop Fleet in 1630 and lived at Watertown, Mass until 1652 when he came to Hempstead at the age of 27 and remained there for a few years, then followed his brother to Middleburg (Newtown) in 1652. . He remained there for 12 years. He married Mary -- the fruit of that marriage was eight children, six sons and two daughters. The sons were John, Josias, David, Joseph, Jonathan and Samuel; the daughters were Martha and Rebecca. As the elder line became extinct with Jonathan in the third generation, this union is the progenitor of those families under the altered name of Furman ... member of the Presbyterian Church.
The first known Furman was a Puritan & fought in Cromwells army, the family came first to Massachusetts.
Josias married ²Mary or Alice Angelche³. Mary was born about 1625 in England and died in 1687, about age 62.

Josias and his brothers Jonathan and Samuel moved after 1731 from Newtown to Hopewell Tp in New Jersey and built "a substantial stone house at a point subsequently known as Furman's Corner."
