Joseph Pepper, born 1801 in Canada (Province unknown). Died 1849 in Essex County, New York. Buried in the Brainards Forge Cemetery, Elizabethtown, Essex County, New York. Married to Margarett (sic) Bartlett, born about 1797 in Canada (Province unknown). Died 1897 in Essex County, New York. Buried in the Ingalls Cemetery, Ticonderoga, Essex County, New York. Joseph and Margarett (sic) had seven children who lived to adulthood; Joseph (b. 1828), Mary (b. 1830), Mosses (sic) (b. 1834), Louisa (b. before 1843), Henry (b. 1838), Charlotte (b. 1845). The family moved from Canada to Lewis, New York between 1834 and 1838. Peppers have continuously lived and farmed in Essex County, New York from 1838 to the present day.
