SHEERNESS TIMES 1865 IT WAS REPORTED THAT DUE TO THE WARM WEATHER THIS SUMMER ALL DOGS MUST BE MUZZLED. THIS DEMAND WAS REPEATED IN 1878, SO MAD DOGS SEEM TO HAVE BEEN COMMON. IN 1871, IN FACT, A RABID DOG ENTERED HOLY TRINITY CHURCH AND CAUSED PANIC AS IT RUSHED UP AND DOWN THE AISLE. THE SERVICE WAS RESUMED AFTER A FEW MINUTES WHEN THE DOG WAS CAPTURED.

WHEN THOMAS BRISTOW MARRIED LYDIA VERNON AT JEVINGTON IN 1790 .THEIR SON WILLIAM RICHARD BRISTOW WAS BAPTISED AT THE DOCKYARD CHURCH FEB. 5TH.1803, AND HIS SON GEORGE FREDERICK BRISTOW WAS A NOTED 19TH. A WORTHY CITIZEN. THE SHEERNESS GUARDIAN OF 1866 REPORTS THAT THE ATLANTA
MESSENGER GAVE THE FOLLOWING NOTICE OF A DECEASED MEMBER OF THAT PLACE;-
"HE WAS THE FATHER OF 11 SONS, 5 OF WHOM MARRIED 5 SISTERS ,HE HAD 189 GRANDCHILDREN, AND AT HIS FUNERAL ON SUNDAY TWO HORSES WERE STUNG TO DEATH BY BEES.

SHEERNESS GUARDIAN NOV.16TH 1889, RECORDS THE FOLLOWING EXTRACT FROM A COURT CASE CONCERNING JAMES HAMMOND:- HE WAS BORN IN SHEERNESS,HIS BIRTH WAS NEVER REGISTERED,HE WAS 10 YEARS OLD ON THE 28TH OF NOVEMBER LAST YEAR,AT LEAST HIS PARENTS THINK HE WAS. HE HAD TWO OTHER NAMES BUT HIS MOTHER HAD FORGOTTEN THEM.
 
SHEERNESS RECORDS. MARY ANN WOOD ,WIFE OF JAMES WOOD OF SHEERNESS,BORN 1862 NOV 27TH A DAUGHTER. THIS INFANT IS BLESSED WITH 2 G.G.FATHERS, 
2 G.G.MOTHERS, 2 G.FATHERS, 2 G.MOTHERS, 21 G.UNCLES, 21 G.AUNTS, 8 UNCLES, 8 AUNTS, AND INNUMERABLE COUSINS.
A GRAVE MISTAKE. AFTER 8 YEARS SEARCHING THE PARISH REGISTERS FOR A NAME TO MATCH THE INITIALS "H.W.P." ON A STONE SLAB IN HIS CHURCH, THE REV.PHILLIP RANDALL OF EYE NEAR PETERSBOROUGH HAS SOLVED THE MYSTERY.
THE INITIALS STAND FOR " HOT WATER PIPE ".
WELL I NEVER DID. SHEERNESS GUARDIAN 1882 SEPT 30TH.
AT GREAT CHART NEAR ASHFORD, MR.HENRY ANDREWS,PARISH CHURCHWARDEN AND THE OCCUPIER OF CHART COURT LODGE, MARRIED MRS.AMELIA WOOD ,WIDOW OF A WELL-TO-DO PUBLICAN OF GREAT CHART. THE BRIDEGROOM WAS AN OCTAGENARIAN AND THE BRIDE WAS NEARLY THREE SCORE YEARS AND TEN.
AFTER THE CEREMONY, THE COUPLE AND THE GUESTS CHEERED AND SALUTED ANOTHER ELDERLY WEDDING PARTY ;MR. CHARLES SPEARPOINT WHO HAD MARRIED MRS.CAROLINE BENSTED,WIDOW, AT THE WESLEYAN CHAPEL,BOTH CONSIDERABLY OVER 70 YEARS OF AGE. THERE WAS A LARGE FIREWORK DISPLAY IN A MEADOW ADJOINING THE STREET.

FROM CHURCH OF ALL SAINTS,EASTCHURCH "PREVIOUS TO THE YEAR 1771, ALL BODIES WASHED UP BY THE SEA WERE BURIED ON THE SHORE,PROBABLY WITHOUT ANY RELIGIOUS SERVICE. THUS, IN 1698, FOUR MEN WERE BURIED AT THE SASIDE, AS AN ENTRY IN THE ACCOUNTS BOOK (NOT IN THE REGISTER! ) RECORDS."
