Jerry Peddy Wins 2006 Andrus Award for Community Service
as a volunteer leader for AARP Oklahoma, Jerry Peddy opens doors for AARP members and prospective members to get involved in their communities. That dedication to service earned Peddy, a Moore OK resident, the 2006 AARP Andrus Award for Community Service in Oklahoma. The Andrus Award, AARP's most prestigious award for volunteers, was presented to Peddy during a luncheon Friday, November 10, 2006, at the Oklahoma History Center. Peddy was one of 20 volunteers from across the state nominated for the award.
"AARP has been my way of living in the spirit of Winston Churchill, who said 'we make a living by what we get, we make a life by what we give,'" said Peddy. "After 25 years with AT&T and 10 years in real estate, I wanted to find something with substance that would allow me to give back to the community and AARP fit the bill."
Peddy first came to AARP as an instructor in the organization's Driver Safety program. He is also a District Coordinator for the AARP Tax-Aide program. Peddy is the lead volunteer in Oklahoma on consumer fraud issues and travels extensively across the state as a valued member of the AARP Oklahoma Fraud Fighters. He also speaks on AARP's behalf about the Medicare Prescription Drug program.
"The more I get involved, the more I appreciate the advocacy the organization does on behalf of seniors," Peddy said. "I look forward to continuing my work as an advocate for seniors and to encourage them to get involved."

Althought the building had not been used in years, it was at one time a granary and a farmhouse which stood near where Corron Elementary School is today. Parks & Recreation Director Jim Reuter thinks it's important to try and preserve a piece of history especially with local farmland dewindling. He hopes some day the building could be used as a museum showcasing farm culture. Another view:
