Peavey Migration Continues
from the New England states to the Northern & Pacific states. Pepperrell cousins led the way to New York.

They moved in covered wagons as well as by the river on flatboats. They endured many hardships and much danger along their journey.

Many Peavey branches were following the old patterns set earlier in England by the Peverel alliances moving in a unit together.

TEMPERANCE MEETINGS

Charles C. Peavey, Battle Creek, Michigan helped secure a massive tent, enlisting Ellen Gould White to speak. Over 5,000 people attended this temperance meeting. Ellen reports great reception and temperence results in Battle Creek.

Many other Peavey descendants took part in the temperance movement. Dominant in the movement were: James Peva, Rev. Jacob Peavey, Rev. Harry Marcellus Peavey, all in Maine; Circuit Rider Evangelists Mahlon Davis Peavy in Wisconsin & John Langdon Peavey (Road Preacher) in New York.



Sheep were brought into the Wood River Valley in the late 1860s. By 1890 there were 614,000 sheep in Idaho and by 1918, 2.7 million. Based on recent estimates, Blaine County, which includes Ketchum, Bellevue and the Peavey ranch, has 32,000 sheep and lambs, the most
of any Idaho county.

John Thomas, twice appointed a U.S. senator, began putting together the Flat Top Sheep Company around the 1920s. Arthur Jacob Peavey, Jr. married Mary, the daughter of John Thomas. Arhur became a very influential operator
of this ranch.
