A Migration from Henry County, Virginia and Orange County, North Carolina
Circa 1815
The Families of William and Elizabeth Warren and Isaac and Fanny Neely ***********************************************************************************************
A very sad note to this document - Ed Neely passed away 22 Feb 1999 in Murfreesboro, TN. I was in the process of calling him when my wife walked into the room telling me That Ed had died - it was our intention of jointly writing this article for publication. I was going to cover the WARREN lines and Ed the NEELY lines ... Finally, after two years, I have decided to submit my part of the joint project that was incomplete at the time of Ed's death. I miss Ed and his wonderful personality and devotion to genealogy. Since this work was suspended for two years, any corrections or updates are welcome

An area of about 3 square miles, where Williamson, Rutherford and Davidson Counties meet, is a place that became the starting point of many families whose names are familiar to Middle Tennessee today: Warren - Neely - Maupin - Jameson - Parsley - Garner - Burk - Hamblet - Stuart - Moore - Harris - Marshall - Kellow - Hall - Edwards - Bazell - Fields, and of course, all the spelling variations that have evolved over the years. The area includes Nolensville, Tennessee, and more specifically Warren Hollow Road and Burk Hollow Road. The separate research of this migration and for these familes was well under way by Ed Neely and Jerry Anderson when they met during the fall of 1998 at the Linbaugh Library in Murfreesboro, TN. It was a meeting like many others that have happened before - "hello, who are you researching". As it turns out, Ed and Jerry are descendants of both Isaac Neely and William Warren. Ed descends from William's youngest daughter Elizabeth who married John Clark Neely. Jerry descends from two Warren lines - William's second son, John, who married Elizabeth Martin, and also from Elizabeth Warren and John Clark Neely by their daughter, Frances Caroline Neely. ***********************************************************************************************
The Warren Family who settled in Williamson County Tennessee about 1815: William Warren was born around 1755 and died 1822 in Williamson County, Tennessee. William was married to a woman named Elizabeth, who was born about the same time as her husband and died about 1837 in Williamson County, Tennessee. The Warren's had at least ten children, all of whom were named in William's will of 1822. Virginia seems to be the birthplace of each of the children, although we cannot say that with certainty. But, what is known, is the location of the marriages of each of the children - Henry County, Virginia for the oldest eight and Tennessee for the youngest two. The marriage of their son Jesse (1813 in VA) and their son Burrell (1816 in TN) implies the family removed to Williamson County between the two dates. This is supported by a land deed of 54 acres to William Warren in August, 1815 and registered in December, 1815. The land connected with Isaac Neely's land. One confusing issue among the children involved William Warren's youngest son, Burrell who was born around 1793 in Virginia and William's grandson, Burrell who was born around 1810 also in Virginia. Like most other families, the same names appear generation after generation. But, the name Burrell is not used as often as John or William or George or Jesse, as was used so often in this Warren line. Evidence that the older Burrell and the younger Burrell were from the same family virtually did not exist. And, was further confused by the fact that the younger Burrell lived closer to his relatives than did the older Burrell. There was no evidence that The older Burrell, who married Elizabeth Nance in 1816 was the father of the younger Burrelll nor was there any evidence that the younger Burrell was the son OR the grandson of the elder William Warren. That is, until 1860 a lawsuit clearly proved what was always suspected - the younger Burrell Warren was either the son of William Warren (Jr) or John Warren, the first two sons of William and Elizabeth Warren. The lawsuit, which will be discussed later, was over John Warren's estate, and clearly places the younger Burrell as his son. ************************************************************************************************ The Children of William and Elizabeth Warren of Henry County, Virginia: ************************************************************************
(1) William Warren (JR)- born about 1780 in Virginia and married Rosannah Parsley 29 March 1800 in Henry County, Virginia. They had at least two sons and four daughters. One son, William Warren III was born 1813 in Tennessee. He married Martha J. Moppin (Maupin) on 17 November 1844 in Williamson County, Tennessee. Their children were Mary, William, Eliza, Drury and Martha.

(2) John Warren - born about 1782 in Virginia and died 1860 in Williamson County, Tennessee. John married Elizabeth Martin on 27 May 1806 in Henry County, Virginia. Elizabeth was born about 1788 in Virginia and died 1837 in Williamson County, Tennessee. They had at least nine children - six sons and three daughters.
... (1) William Warren was born in Virginia and married Lucy Bazzell in 1831 and they had at least nine children. William died between 1850 and 1860.
... (2) Joseph Warren was born in Virginia and married Susan (possibly Wood) around 1835 and they had a rather large family. Joseph shows up in Rutherford County and lived to be about 90 years old.
... (3) Burrell Warren was born about 1810 in Virginia and married (very possibly as his second wife) the widow Keziah Hamlett Fields in 1835 in Williamson County, Tennessee. There was a marriage between a Burrell Warren and a Mary Redford in 1832 in Williamson County, Tennessee. Unless this "Burrell" was an unidentified grandson of William and Elizabeth Warren, it could have a first wife to this Burrell. Burrell and Keziah Warren had at least three daughters and two sons. Their youngest son, Anthony Burrell Warren is the great-great grandfather of Jerry Anderson.
... (4) Eva Warren was born about 1813 in Virginia and married Elijah Stewart in 1840 in Williamson County, Tennessee. They had at least four sons and three daughters.
... (5) Frances Warren was born about 1815 and married James Stewart in 1835 in Williamson County, Tennessee. They had at least four sons and two daughters.
... (6) John Warren was born about 1817 in Tennessee and married Frances Buckingham in 1840 in Williamson County, Tennessee. They had at least four sons and two daughters and resided in Maury County, Tennessee.
... (7) Quilla M Warren was born about 1820 in Tennessee and married Mary Ann Moppin (Maupin) in 1844 in Williamson County, Tennessee. They had at least 10 children, eight sons and two daughters. Quilla and his younger brother were involved in a lawsuit against their other siblings over the estate of their father. A part of the original land grant to William Warren in 1815 is today owned by a descendant of Quilla Warren.
... (8) Jane Warren was born about 1822 in Tennessee and she married James Poyner in 1842 in Williamson County, Tennessee. They had at least three children and resided in Kentucky.
... (9) Jessee Warren was born about 1824 in Tennessee. Jesse married Mary A. Fields (very possible, a daughter of Keziah Hamlet by her first husband, Leonard Fileds) in 1849 in Williamson County, Tennessee. They had at least three daughters. As previously mentioned, Jesse and his older brother, Quilla was involved in a lawsuit as defendants againt their siblngs. The other defendant in the lawsuit was a Fileding Warren, who has been indentified as a "distant cousin" of John Warren. Fielding took care of old John for the last few weeks of John's life. John signed a deed for his property over to Fielding Warren and Quillla and Jesse Warren witnessed the deed signing. Fielding Warren won the lawsuit and the propery eventually ended up in Quilla M. Warren's hands. As also, previously mentioned, this lawsuit positively identified all of John Warren's children, including the "younger" Burrell Warren.

(3) Armin Warren was born 1784 in Virginia. She married James Parsley in Henry County, VA on 19 Sep 1902.

(4) Eveland Warren was born abt 1784 in Virginia. She married William Marshall in Henry County, VA on 10 Oct 1802.

(5) Jane Warren was born about 1785 in Virginia. She married George Maupin on 18 September 1802 in Henry County, Virginia. They had at least five sons and five daughters. Three of the daughters married Warrens. Elizabeth, the oldest, married the previously mentioned "distant cousin", Fielding Warren. Martha J. Moppin married William Warren III and Mary A. Moppin married Quilla M. Warren. Elizabeth Maupin and her husband Fielding Warren had at lest twelve children. Jane Warren and husband George Maupin's second son John Maupin married Elizabeth Bazdell (Bazzell) in 1834 in Williamson County, Tennesee and they had at least five daughters. Burrell Maupin, the third son of Jane and George Maupin was born about 1814 in Tennessee (which might indicate Jane removed to Tennessee before her parents and siblings). Burrell Maupin married Rosannah Parsley in 1835 in Williamson County, Tennessee. Rosannah was no doubt related to her Uncle William (Jr.) Warren's wife, Rosannah. Jane and George Maupin's second daughter, Frances, was born, like her older brother John, in North Carolina. She married Benjamin Hughes in 1827 in Williamson County, TN. at the age of seventeen. They had at least eight children, one of which is believed to have married Albert Warren, a son of Quilla M. Warren.

(6) Drury Warren was born 1786 in Virginia. He married Sally Jameson in Henry County, VA on 4 Nov 1807

(7) Fanny Warren was born in 1788 Virginia. She married Thomas Garner in Henry Co, VA on 14 Nov 1807 - Evidently, a double wedding with her brother Drury. Fanny and Thomas had at least two sons - born between 1808 - 1820 either in VA or NC ...

... (1) Frances H. Neely who married Arthur Kellow in 1836 and they had at least 7 children
... (2) William W. Neely born 1814 who married Lydia Hall and they had at least 8 children, including John D. Neely, the ancestor of Ed Neely.
... (3) Isaac Neely born 1821 who married Sarah E.C,. Burke and had Miles Edwin Neely.
