On May 2 of inflammation of the lungs, Deline, beloved wife of Pascal Mauborquette, died in the 46th year of her age, leaving a sorrowing husband and a large circle of friends to mourn the loss of a kind and affectionate wife. Also Mrs. Fehem Mauborquette, who departed this life on the 6th,in the 64th year of her life. May their souls rest in peace.

Mrs. Geo. Maubourquette of L'Ardoise, died there on Saturday after a long illness. She was the mother of Rev. Father Maubourquette of Thorburn and was a lady highly respected and esteemed buy all her acquaintance.

Glace Bay, Charles Masters - Aug.18 - The death of Charles Masters, 35, occurred this morning in the Glace Bay General Hospital after a lengthy illness. He was born in Halifax and was employed as a dockyard worker. Besides his widow he is survived by two sons, Aflred, Wayne and a daughter Mary all of L'Ardoise and his mother Mrs. Hillaire Gracie at L'Ardoise. Sisters are: Emma in Montreal; Mrs. Ernest Sampson, L'Ardoise; brother Walter Masters, L'Ardoise and a stepbrother Albert Gracie, also of L'Ardoise. The funeral will be held at L'Ardoise and burial in the parish cemetery on Thursday morning.

L'Ardoise-Funeral services will be held here today for Charles A. Martell, 92, a retired carpenter, who died at St. Rita Hospital, Sydney, Thursday. [Jan 5th] Surviving are four daughters, Anna, Mrs. Hubert Sampson, Maimi; Florence, Mrs Robert Wardrope, Hawaii; Mrs Alfred Murray, Boston; Mrs. Linda Mombourquette, L'Ardoise; two sons, Clarence at home; Harvey, Halifax. He was a member of Guardian Angel Parish.

The funeral for James Mombourquette, L'Ardoise who died suddenly there at the age of 85, was held Wednesday from the Guardian Angel Church. Interment was in the church cemetery. Mr. Mombourquette was predeceased by his wife. He is survived by five sons, George, Francis, Isaac all at home, William of Spryfield and Henry of Halifax; and four daughters, Mrs. Victoria Mariner, Loch Lomond, Cape Breton, Mary (Mrs. Emery Slate) of Spryfield, Matilda (Mrs. Thomas Clannon) and Evangeline, Mrs. Stephen Martell, both at home.

L'Ardoise West-Charles Alfred Mombourquette, aged 62, died at his home in L'Ardoise West Friday after a lengthy illness. He was employed as a carpenter for a number of years and operated a grocery store for a short time. He was a member of Holy guardian Angel parish, and the vice-president of the Richmond county Progressive conservative Association. Mr. Mombourquette is survived by his wife the former Annie May Briand; two sons, Samuel, Halifax and Alexander L'Ardoise West. two daughters, Joan (Mrs. James Duggan) Halifax and Annette (Mrs. Jerome Martell),  L'Ardoise West and one brother Frank, L'Ardoise West and St. Peter's. Funeral Will be held Tuesday in time for ...... High Mass, at 10 a.m. at the Holy Guardian Angel Church. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Edward F. Mombourquette, 79 of L'Ardoise, Richmond County, died yesterday at his home. He was Born in L'Ardoise and was the son of the late Felix Mombourquette and Annie Thibeau. Mr. Mombourquette is survived by; his wife the former Annie Berrett; seven daughters, Agnes (Mrs. Fabie Deveau), Theresa, (Mrs. Harry Johnson), Laura, (Mrs. Basil Fogarty), Annie Mae, (Mrs. Harry LeRue), all of Halifax; Margaret ( Mrs. MacAvoy), Elizabeth, (Mrs. Herbert Roy), Lillian, (Mrs. Earl Ellis); and four sons. Paul of Westphal, Dan of Halifax, Felix and Alfred at home; two brothers, James at L'Ardoise, and Murdock at Halifax, 17 grandchildren and five great-grand children. His body is at his home in L'Ardoise. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at Holy Guardian Angel church, L'Ardoise. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Harry Martell L'Ardoise-Harry Martell, a former resident of L'Ardoise, Cape Breton, Died suddenly at home in St. Eustache, Quebec, yesterday. He is survived by his father, Albert; his wife, Alice; two sons Gerald and Robert; daughter, Linda, all in St. Eustache; three sisters, Irene (Mrs. Cyril Jones), Halifax; Rose (Mrs. Ronald Lawrence), California; Lola (Mrs. T. St. Louis), Quebec; two brothers, Edward and Alfred, St. Eustache. The funeral will be in St. Eustache Friday.

L'ARDOISE-Albert Martell, (? 86)(not clear), a native of L'ardoise, died in Montreal Hospital Wednesday after a long illness. He was the son of the late Fredrick Martell and Flavie Mombourquette, and a fishman until he moved to Montreal 25 years ago. His wife, the former Celiste Sampson, died in 1940 . He is survived by three daughters, Irene (Mrs. Herold Jones), Halifax; Rose (Mrs. Ronnie Lawrence), Califonia; Lola (Mrs. Ted St. Louis), Quebec; two sons, Aldore and Alfred, Twin Mountains, Quebec; three sisters, Catherine (Mrs. Hubert Sampson), L'Ardoise; Sabine (Mrs. Charles Sampson), Rockdale; Obiline (Mrs. Leo Vaughan), Boston; two brothers, Charlie, Martinique; Maurice, Morell, P.E.I. and 11 grandchildren. The funeral service is at the Roman Catholic Church in Two Mountains, Quebec, on Saturday.

ALEX MOMBOURQUETTE
SYDNEY - Alex Mombourquette, 83, former Sydney Steel union official, died Sunday night. Born in Lower L'Ardoise, he resided in Sydney most of his life. He was employed as a blacksmith with the Dominion Coal Company for more than 50 years before retiring six years ago. He was in the steel union and was a frequent representative at most conventions. He was a member of St. Anthony Daniel Parish. Surviving are two sons: Dan, New York; Wallace, Kitchener; two daughters, Marguerite and Madeline (Mrs. Howard Brewster) both in Sydney; two brothers, Anthony and Manuel, both in L'Ardoise; seven grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. His wife and three children are dead. His body is at home, Gritton Avenue. The funeral is from St. Anthony Daniel Church.

He was former Postmaster in the community, a member of the Knights of Columbus and was active in community affairs. surviving are his wife, the former Marguerite O'Tool; four sons, Cyril J. L'Ardoise- Murdock Martell, born in L'Ardoise, died Monday in New Jersey. He was 69. Son of the late William Martell, he left Nova Scotia 41years ago and worked for several years in a radio factory. Mr. Martell is survived by his wife Elizabeth; three daughters and several grand children in New Jersey; a sister, Loretta (Mrs. Edward Keigan), brothers, George and Wilfred, Halifax.

Born in Lower L'Ardoise she was the daughter of Virginia and the late Benjamin Barrett. Besides her mother, she is survived by her husband Joseph, one son Daryl; four brothers, George, Lower L'Ardoise; and Albert, Richard and Wilfred, all of Halifax; two sisters Lena, (Mrs. Amos Landry), Halifax; and Theresa, (Mrs. Herman Mombourquette), Port Hawkesbury. The body is at the home of her mother, Mrs. Virginia Barrett, Lower L'Ardoise. Funeral mass will be held Wednesday morning from the Church of the Guardian Angel, Lower L'Ardoise. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Fred Evong, Grand Lake Road, Mrs. Albert Evong, L'Ardoise, and Mrs. Morris Darveau, Quebec; three sons, Fred, New Glasgow; Tom Sampson and Albert Sampson, both of Antigonish; 45 grandchildren and 93 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. She was predeceased by her first husband Edmund Sampson, and by her second husband, Charles: and three sons. The body is at the T. W. Curry Funeral Home. SYDNEY - Thomas Daniel (Tom) Mombourquette, 60, prominent Cape Breton labor figure and community worker, died at his home, 14 Coady Street, Thursday. He was born in L'Ardoise, Richmond County, a son of the late Samuel and Mary (Ranson) Mombourquette and lived in Sydney most of his life. He was a steelworker for 39 years. Mr. Mombourquette was Cape Breton vice president of the Nova Scotia Federation of Labor, secretary of the Cape Breton Labor Council for the past 20 years, an active member of Local 1064, United Steelworkers of America, a member of the Sydney Co-op Society, on the board of directors of Catholic charities, a former member of the Sydney City Planning Board, a member of the board of referees for the Unemployment Insurance Commission, and a former scoutmaster. He was a member of St. Anthony Daniel Parish and the Knights of Columbus. He is survived by his wife, the former Florence MacInnis: three daughters, Marilyn (Mrs. Arthur Cole), Halifax County; Elaine (Mrs. Donald Digou), Dartmouth; and Lorna (Mrs. Bill MacDonald), Sydney; six sons, Thomas, Alberta; Arnold and Peter, Sydney; Raymond, Sydney Forks, Joseph, at home; Douglas, Winnipeg. The body is at the T. W. Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral service will be held in St .Anthony Daniel Church Sunday at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Resurrection cemetery.

He was a retired seaman and carpenter. Surviving besides his wife, the former Ada Riley, are five sons, Riley, Chezzetcook; Thomas and John, both of Rockdale; Paul, Ottawa; Hillary, Sackville, N.S.; two daughters, Mrs. Freda Tryon, Toronto; Theresa (Mrs. W. MacKenzie), Ottawa; a brother, Dennis, Halifax; a sister, Mrs. Eva Tremblay, Andover, Mass.; 21 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife the former Margaret Richard. He is survived by three sons, Henry (Albert) of Spryfield, Joseph Harold, at home; Michael Harold, in Mississauga, Ont. Three daughters, Eileen (Mrs Reg Dickson), Spryfield; Doris (Mrs Robert Blakey), at home; Joan (Mrs William Jones), Peterborough, Ont.; 20 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. The funeral was held from Snow's Funeral Home and burial took place in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Sackville.

Born in Rockdale, he was the son of Veronica (Sampson) of Rockdale and the late Charles Mombourquette. He was employed in the maintenance department of the heavy water plant in Glace Bay. Surviving are his wife, the former Caren Savoy; a sister Anne Marie, St. Joseph's, N.B.' one brother, Rev. James, parish priest of Louisdale. The body will be at the L'Ardoise Parish Funeral Home after 2:00 p.m. today. Funeral mass will be Saturday at 10 a.m. in Holy Guardian Angel Church, L'Ardoise. Rev. Clarence MacDonald officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

William Joseph Martell, 62, 5594 Northridge Road, Halifax, died Thursday at the Victoria General Hospital. Born in L'Ardoise, Richmond County, he was a son of Nellie Martell and the late Severn Martell. He served in the Royal Canadian Navy and earned the silver star and bar. Arthur J. Morven, 78, of Antrim, formerly of Halifax, died Friday at home. Born in Cape Breton, he was a son of the late Alex and Rosealma (O'Clair) Morven. He retired from the Nova Scotia Power Corporation in 1972 after 40 years service. He is survived by his wife, the former Mildred Mayo; five daughters. He was a fisherman all his life and a member of Holy Guardian Angel Church. Born in Point Michaud, Richmond Co., he was a son of the late John and Anne (Sutherland) Murphy. He lived most of his life in Glace Bay and was a member of St. Anne's Church. As a younger man, he served with the RCMP in both Ontario and New Brunswick. He was employed as a security guard at the Sydney Steel Plant, retiring in 1963. He was also employed for a time with the Testing Unit at the Cape Breton Sports Centre. He was a member of the RCMP Veterans Association. Surviving are his wife, the former Kathleen Fitzpatrick; sons, John Joseph, Patrick Daniel, Reserve Mines; George Gregory, Sydney Mines; Michael Vincent, Sydney River; Kevin Peter, Glace Bay; William Bernard, Stoney Creek, Ont.; daughters, Mary Theresa (Mrs. George Banfield), Florida; Anne Maureen (Mrs. William MacIntosh), Glace Bay; 17 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren. Born February 13, 1933 in Eden, Inverness Co., he was a son of the late James and Charlotte (MacLean) MacLean. He received his early education at Sydney Academy and spent a year at Xavier Junior College, Sydney. He graduated from Acadia University with a bachelor of arts degree and a bachelor of divinity degree from McGill. He held a testamur in theology from Presbyterian College, McGill University. After studies at the University of Glasgow and Ottawa Teachers College, he took his theological education at University of Trinity College and St. Augustine's Seminary, Toronto. He was ordained to the priesthood on November 30, 1992, in St. Anthony Daniel Church, Sydney. Prior to this, he served the Anglican Diocese of Nova Scotia. In 1992, he was appointed assistant at St. Anthony Daniel Parish, Sydney; in 1993, he became the parish priest of St. Joseph's, South West Margaree and St. Patrick's, North East Margaree; in 1995, he served in Holy Guardian Angels Parish, L'Ardoise. Due to health reasons, he retired from active ministry earlier this year. Surviving are sisters, Isabelle Cooper, Sydney; Naomi Walker, Dartmouth; brothers, Charles, Toronto; Angus, Sydney. He was retired from HMC Dockyards and was a veteran if the Second World War, seaving overseas with the Cape Breton Highlanders. She was a member for over 30 years of the ladies auxiliary, Royal Canadian Legion, Scotia Branch. For over 40 years, she served the communities of Renton, Washington, British Columbia and Nova Scotia. She retired to Mount St. Vincent Motherhouse in 1975. He served in the Navy during the Second World War. Upon his discharge, he attended St. Francis Xavier University and later graduated in mechanical engineering from TUNS. He worked with Halifax Heating and with IMP in LaTuque, Que., and Montreal. He joined the engineering department of Canadian Pacific Railway in Montreal and retired in 1986. Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth; daughter, Gisele; sons, Paul, Jean; several grandchildren; sister, Trudy Pertus, Halifax; twin sister, Louise McGean, St. Peter's. McNEIL, Agnes Mary (Aggie) - 91, 139 Herring Cove Rd., Spryfield, passed away peacefully on October 19, 1998, surrounded by her family at the home of her son in Truro. Born in Lower L'Ardoise, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Maggie (Murphy) McGrath. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She spent all of her adult life in Spryfield. She was employed for many years at Kentucky Fried Chicken. She was an avid traveller; a member of the Golden Age Social Centre, Spryfield; a bowler with various leagues in Spryfield and Halifax, and an enthusiastic Toronto Blue Jays and Toronto Maple Leafs fan. She was most importantly a loving mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. She is sadly missed by sons, Jerry (Emma), Spryfield; Barry (Diane), Truro; daughter-in-law, Rosie, Hubbards; grandchildren, Scott, Shawn (Holly), Pat (Heather), Traci (Gilles) and Tina (Wayne); great-grandchildren, Daniel, Kelsey and Keith; step-grandchildren, Robbie, Bruce and Susan (Michael); step-great-grandchildren, Michael and Caleb. MARTELL, John (Don) - 73, Rockdale, Richmond Co., died in Strait Richmond Hospital on Friday, December 25, 1998. Born in Rockdale, he was a son of the late Wilfred P. and Nona Langille Martell. He retired after 25 years service as a barber with the Department of National Defense, Halifax. He was a Scottish fiddler and competed in the Maritime Fiddling Championships. He was a member of the Cape Breton Club Halifax, and also a member of the Richmond Fiddlers, St. Peter's. He was a member of St. John Ambulance Brigade, Dartmouth Division. He was a hunter and guide for many years. He was also a member of the Halifax West Fish and Game Association. In 1940 she was appointed as Postmistress of the West L'Ardoise Post Office, where she kept this post for 5 years. She taught french religion at Sunday school as well as at home to neighboring children. Her main hobby was sewing and cooking. She is survived by daughters, Isabelle (John), Bedford; Linda (Pat), L'Ardoise; sons, Clifford (May), Halifax; Stanley (Yvonne); Allen (MaryAnne); ten grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren. MARTELL, Alphonse C. "Phon" - 94, L'Ardoise, died Friday, August 20, 1999, in the QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax. Born in L'Ardoise, Richmond Co., he was a son of the late Passia and Rose (Sampson) Martell. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Mary Hilda Martell; sisters, Lena Sampson, Sister Marion Cephas; brothers, Angus, Bertram, Amable, Ephraim, Richard, Edmond. Phon will be sadly missed by his many nieces and nephews. He will always be remembered as a quiet and peaceful man who gave much to his community. Phon designed the renovations at the Dr. W.B. Kingston Clinic, as well designing the L'Ardoise Community Centre, Holy Guardian Angels Church and Holy Guardian Angels Funeral Home. He also made the plot plan for the parish cemetery. Phon worked in the building trade industry as a supervisor and had a diploma in architectural design. MOMBOURQUETTE, Frank James "Frankie I" - 83, L'Ardoise, died Friday, April 14, 2000, in the Strait Richmond Hospital. Born in L'Ardoise July 3, 1916, he was a son of the late Alex and Maggie (Barron) Mombourquette. He was a member of Holy Guardian Angels Parish and was very much involved in all aspects and roles of community life. He was a long-time member of the Parish Council, an usher at church, a founding member of the Dr. Wm B. Kingston Memorial Clinic, The L'Ardoise Men's Club, and Acadian Festival. He retired from driving the mail between St. Peters and L'Ardoise after 56 years of service. He had operated Frank's Bus and Taxi Service from 1943-1971. He was co-owner and operator of S & M Texaco Service Station from 1962-1967. January 1, 1963, he started his own company "Frank's Fuels". His business motto was "Let's Be Warm Friends", a motto he always lived by. He served as Municipal councilor for District 15 L'Ardoise from 1952-1967 and as a member of the Richmond Municipal School Board during the same period of time. In 1992, on the occasion of 125th Anniversary of Confederation, he was awarded the confederation medal for his dedicated service to the community. He was an ardent member of the Progressive Conservative Party. Frank is survived by his wife of 58 years the former Kathleen Martell; daughters, Rose (Joe) Cooke, St. Peters; Patricia (Rene) Samson, Betty Anne (Emile) Boulet, L'Ardoise; Jeannette (Paul) Parry, Lower Sackville; Germaine (Robert) Gargan, Halifax; sons, Frankie (Florence MacMillan) and Gregory (Barbara Pilon), L'Ardoise. He is also survived by grandchildren, Pierre, Todd (Jennifer), Chad (Trish), Adam, Scott, David, Denny, Colleen (Kevin), Russell (Saskia), Karen (Darrell), Janelle, Laura, Jamie, Brent; two great-grandchildren, Aico and Julia; also survived by several nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Annie Mae. Born in L'Ardoise, on September 24, 1921, she was a daughter of the late Malcolm J. and Laura (Boyd) MacNeil. She will be forever missed and lovingly remembered by husband, Amos E. MacGean; daughters, Maura Calder (Terry), Karen McGrath (David) and Stephanie McGean (Rodney). After working in Halifax, she returned to her family home in L'Ardoise, married and raised her family. She was employed for several years as a para- professional with the Richmond County School Board. Louise was a very active, community- minded person. She was a charter member and life member of the St. Peter's and Area Lioness Club, having served three terms as president; a charter member and life member of the Strait Richmond East Hospital Auxiliary, serving two terms as president; a member of the Coordinating Council of Hospital Auxiliaries for the Strait Richmond Hospital; a member of the Ladies Social Club in L'Ardoise; a member of the CWL in L'Ardoise, having served as president; a member of the Ladies Auxiliary, Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 110, L'Ardoise. She is survived by her sister, Gertrude Pertus (John), Halifax; grandchildren, Samantha, Ainslie, Sean, Breann, Brittany and Gillian; several nieces and nephews; numerous relatives. Born in L'Ardoise, he was a son of the late Urban and Louise (Martell) Mombourquette. George was an employee of Stora for 28 years. He was a past member of the St. Peters and area Lions Club, L'Ardoise Men's Club and a member of the Holy Guardian Angel Choir. He has always been an active worker of the community. George will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Survived by his wife, Rita; two sons, Claude, L'Ardoise; Dr. Terence Mombourquette, Sydney; one sister and three brothers, Marie Pilon; Roy and Maxwell, L'Ardoise; Joe, Salmon River, Digby Co. There will be no visitation. Body has been given to Dalhousie Medical Research. Born in L'Ardoise, he was a son of the late John E. Martell and Sabine (Briand) Martell. He is survived by wife, Margaret; daughter, Joan; grandson, Terry; two great-grandchildren, Amanda and Stephanie. He is also survived by brother, William (Bill) L'Ardoise and many nieces and nephews. He was employed with the Federal Government, first with Department of Indian Affairs and later with Department of Public Works. He was a member of Holy Guardian Angels Parish. He will always be remembered for his great sense of humour and love of fiddle music. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Huguette (Chiasson); sons, Blaine (Sandra) and Blair (Gladys), both of Halifax; sisters, Mary and Eileen; brothers, Johnny, Charlie, Walter and Lawrence; several nieces and nephews. Names of three killed in crash released 

MARSHY HOPE - Three members of a Cape Breton family have been identified as those killed in a head-on collision Monday afternoon on Highway 104 in Pictou County.  Killed in the crash were Jean Ellen Mombourquette, 65, of Rockdale; her daughter, Sharon Elizabeth Webb, 45, of Lower L'Ardoise; and Mrs. Mombourquette's brother-in-law, George Albert Wright, 65, of Port Hawkesbury.  Mr. Wright was the driver of a westbound vehicle that was struck by a sport utility vehicle driven by a 45-year-old Ontario man. A third passenger in the Wright vehicle - which was travelling to Halifax for Mrs. Mombourquette's son's university graduation - and the SUV driver remained in hospital Tuesday with serious injuries.

A Stellarton RCMP spokesman said the SUV crossed the centre line on a straight stretch near Marshy Hope and sideswiped a car driven by a 74-year-old woman, whose 80-year-old husband was her passenger, and then collided head-on with Mr. Wright's car. Roads were dry under overcast skies at the time. RCMP are investigating.

He was employed as a seaman for Eastern Steamship Lines, U.S.A. and was employed as a painter in the area until his retirement. He loved music and sang in the church choir for many years. He was predeceased by his wife, Cecilia (MacNeil) and sister, Mae. He is survived by his godchild, Mavis (Claude) Boudreau; several other nieces, nephews and cousins. Born in L'Ardoise, he was a son of the late John E. and Zabine (Briand) Martell. Bill was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was a lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 110, L'Ardoise. A veteran of the Second World War, he served overseas with the Halifax Rifles in France, Belgum, Holland and England. Dad worked to help build the road to Sydney in the 1930's and was a fisherman for most of his life. He is survived by his wife, Lorraine (LaBelle); son, Joseph (Nancy), Bedford; daughters, Sadie Williamson (Terry), Port Hastings; Cecilia Horton (Doug), Grand Grave; grandchildren, Shane, Jason, Francine, Janice and Kyle; great_grandson, Ethan; many nieces and nephews. Dad had a wonderful sense of humor. He enjoyed watching the Blue Jays on TV and going to the wharf on the weekends with the fisherman. Visitation 2_9 p.m. today in Alex A. MOMBOURQUETTE, Daniel Raymond - 85, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 18, 2004, in Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston. Born July 2, 1919, in L'Ardoise, he was the son of the late Alex P. and Josephine (Briand) Mombourquette. In early years, Dan fished with his brother Tranquil. He also worked on the power line and retired from Leonard Martell Enterprises in 1983. A very gentle and peaceful man, Dan took great pride in his garden. His favourite pastime was the company of friends for a lively game of 45's. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, the former Sophie Martell; sons, Donnie (Jenny), Port Hawkesbury; Raymond and Allan, L'Ardoise; daughters, Sandra Johnson, Chapel Island; Anna, Port Hawkesbury; Gwen, L'Ardoise. He is also survived by five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, sister, Margaret (Late Dominic) Martell, Halifax. Besides his parents, Dan was predeceased by brothers, Tranquil and Gus; sisters, Florence Martin, Sadie Mombourquette, Rose and Alma in early childhood. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation. A memorial mass will take place Thursday, December 23, at 10 a.m. in Holy Guardian Angels Church, L'Ardoise. Burial of ashes in the parish cemetery, Rev. Born in L'Ardoise, he was a son of the late Henry J. and Elise (LaBille) Martell. Until his retirement, he was employed with the Department of Public Works for 38 years as a Dredge Captain. He is survived by his children, Austin (Margaret), Soldiers Cove; Fraser (Debbie), St. Peter's; Angus (Bernadette), Hay Cove; Jerry (Cindy), St. Peter's; Jackie, L'Ardoise; Pauline (Trevor Wilkie), Three Island; Tommy, L'Ardoise; Colleen (Mike MacNeil), Hay Cove; Maureen (Peter Clow), Baddeck; 14 grandchildren; brother, Louis, Quebec. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Blanche Mombourquette; granddaughter, Kelsie Martell; brother, Ken. No flowers by request. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation. MOMBOURQUETTE, Herman Angus - 85, Port Hawkesbury and L'Ardoise, passed away Wednesday, April 20, 2005, at home. Born in West L'Ardoise, he was a son of the late Alex and Margaret (MacNeil) Mombourquette. Herman was a member of St. Joseph's Church, Port Hawkesbury and Holy Guardian Angels Parish, L'Ardoise. He joined the navy as a young man and later worked as a painter in Halifax and Sydney. He drove a truck for Frank I. Mombourquette. For 27 years he was employed by the Department of Transportation as a mechanic. He was also a snowplow operator, working in the L'Ardoise area. Herman was a man with a rich knowledge about the history of L'Ardoise and its families, spending a lot of time helping people discover their ancestry, always willing and happy to do so. He will be sadly missed by family and friends in L'Ardoise and Port Hawkesbury and other parts of Richmond County. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, the former Theresa Birrette; brother, Ernest (Tory) Mombourquette; four nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Morton and Elmer. Resting in Green's Funeral Home, 507 Bernard St., Port Hawkesbury, 7-9 p.m. today and in Holy Guardian Angels Funeral Parlor, L'Ardoise, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday. MARTELL, Charles F. "Chuck" - It is with much sadness that the loved ones of Charles Martell announce his sudden passing on May 7, 2005, with his family by his side. Born in Rockdale, Cape Breton, on February 27, 1922, he was the loving son of the late Wilfred and Nona (Mailman) Martell. After leaving his beloved Cape Breton, he came to Halifax where he served in the Armed Forces, was a chef aboard CN Rail and retired from Nova Scotia Power after 37 years of dedicated service. Charlie was the first to lend a helping hand and provide caring support to family and friends. His small passions in life were fishing and hunting, and he had a great love for cooking. But all of these were second to the love of his little piece of Cape Breton, "Ocean View Cottage" in Rockdale. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Marie (Pottie); sons, Gregory (Carole), David (Denise); daughter, Brenda (Steve), all of Halifax; his grandchildren, the joys of his life, Scott (Rachelle), Kim, Bryan, Jeff, Cory, Erin; brothers, Lawrence (Marie), Lester (Carolyn); sister, Leone (Alfred); many nieces and nephews. Ralph Joseph Martell of L'Ardoise, died Friday, June 10, 2005, at the Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston. Born in L'ardoise, he was the son of the late Dominic and Ada Martell. He is survived by his wife, Sandra; sisters, Rita Mombourquette and Muriel Ferguson; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Clara MacNeil. MOMBOURQUETTE, Suzette Paula - 38, Bedford, passed away peacefully into the arms of God on Friday, July 29, 2005, in the New Halifax Infirmary, QEII, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Halifax, she was a daughter of Elaine (Gillis) Mombourquette and Sam Mombourquette. Mourning the loss of their sister are Steven (Anne), Dartmouth; Paul, Halifax, and Simone (Terry), Halifax. She is sadly missed by her nephew, Cameron; niece, Katie, and godson, Brett Graham. Suzette will be greatly missed by her aunt, Joan, and many dear aunts and uncles. She valued extended family relationships, cousins, and special friends. She was predeceased by her grandparents, Charlie and Annie Mae "Nannie" Mombourquette, and John S. and Katie Eugene Gillis. Despite having a neurological disorder, Freidreich's Ataxia, and dealing with the many challenges it presented, Suzette graduated from Sacred Heart Convent in 1985. She went on to receive her Bachelor Degree from Saint Mary's University in 1990. Following graduation, she worked for the federal government in Charlottetown and Halifax. Strong in her conviction to maintain her physical health, Suzette worked out three days a week at a local fitness club. She also enjoyed reading, movies, dinner parties and the company of family and friends. Suzette was thoughtful, generous and touched the lives of and inspired everyone she knew. Our lives have been enriched because of Suzette. Family flowers only. MARTELL, John Lawrence - 90, L'Ardoise, Cape Breton, passed away peacefully January 8, 2006, in Richmond Villa, St. Peter's. Born in L'Ardoise, he was a son of the late Sylvester and Annie (Briand) Martell. He was a fisherman in his early years and a miner until 1969. He was a member of Holy Guardian Angels Parish, and a lifetime member of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 110, L'Ardoise. He was a past president of the L'Ardoise Men's Club as well as past president of the L'Ardoise Jolly Club. He was also an active parish volunteer in the community for many years, and a member of the Seniors Advisory Council for Strait Richmond Hospital. He is survived by his loving, devoted wife of 61 years, Gladys; sons, Walter (Sharon), Michael (Marg); daughters, Isabelle (Louis Sampson) and Joanne; grandchildren, Darren, Kenny, Sean, Matthew, Yvette, Tanya, Dawn; brothers, Walter, Charlie, Lawrence; sister, Eileen. He will also be missed by his beloved pets. He was predeceased by his brother, Cornelius; sister, Mary, and daughter, Evangeline in infancy. Willard Leslie Mombourquette, 60, of 28 Barrington St., Sydney Mines, passed away peacefully surronded by his loving family, Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2006, at Northside General Hospital, North Sydney. Born in St Esprit, Richmond County, he was the son of Mae (Ferguson) from Lower L'Ardoise and the late George E Mombourquette. Throughout his lifetime, Willard was employed with Metcalfe Metals, sheet metal worker, coal miner in Princess Colliery for five years, construction work in Port Hawkesbury and aluminum siding with Harbor Aluminum. Willard recently retired from the Cape Breton-Victoria Regional School Board where he worked for the past 26 years in various departments and finally as supervisor facilities management up to his retirement in December 2005. He was a member of the St. Pius X parish. Willard's keen interest was in cars whether new or antique. Willard is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Sophie (Blackie); devoted sons, Frankie (Karen), New Glasgow; Willard P. (Shawna), Sydney Mines; Lloyd (Susanne) Sydney Mines. He is survived by seven grandchildren, Gregory, Jordan, Christopher, Taryn, and Thomas, Michael and Sarah. John Henry 'Harry' Murphy, 86, of East Bay, passed away May 26, 2006, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Massachusetts, May 29, 1919, he was the son of the late Joseph and Mary (Riley) Murphy. He was a longtime member of St. Mary's parish, East Bay. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, the former Clare Gillis of Grand Mira. Mr. Murphy is also survived by daughters, Arlene Vassallo (Gary), Portage, Annette Robinson (John), sons, Bernie (Teresa), Glace Bay, Leo (Georgina), Campbell River, B.C., Terry (Debbie), Yarmouth, Tom (Carol), East Bay, Jerry, Sydney; 25 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Catterina, Medford, Mass. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Joseph, Vancouver, brothers, Bernard, Leo and a sister, Blanche. During the Second World War, Harry served with the Royal Canadian Navy. He was a life-member of Branch 151RCL, East Bay. He was an active member in the Poppy Campaign for many years. Mr. Murphy was employed at Sydney Steel for 44 years, retiring as superintendent of the mechanical department. Harry and Clare spent several years volunteering with Meals on Wheels. He was an avid reader and he and Clare enjoyed their weekly card games. Visitation for the late Mr. Murphy will take place Sunday, May 28 at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel, Sydney, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Mary's Church, East Bay, Monday at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. Frank Abbass officiating. MOMBOURQUETTE, Leo Frederick - Always a kind and caring man, passed away August 17, 2006, at the age of 84, in Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born July 15, 1922, he was a son of the late Samuel and Sarah (Pottie) Mombourquette. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Originally from L'Ardoise, Cape Breton, he moved with his family to Halifax when he was a teen. He was employed with G.B. Murphy & Sons until his retirement, and then returned to L'Ardoise for the remainder of his days. Leo is survived by his sister-in-law, Norma, along with many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters, Madeleine (Joe) Roy-Draper, Mary (Bert) Samson, Agnes (Peter) Briand, and brothers, Harold (Estelle), Jim, Samuel, Francis (Mary), Henry, Ernest (Norma). MUSTIN, Harriett Lorraine - Halifax. It is with sadness that we announce the passing of a sister and friend on December 29, 2006, in the VG Site, QEII. She will always be remembered as a lady who cared for her family and many friends. She was a daughter of the late Lawrence and Fatima Samson (Halifax). She is survived by brothers, Howard (Barbara) Samson, Halifax/Sherbrooke; Leo (Doreen) Samson, Victoria, B.C.; sister, Ruby Sampson, Northwood Centre, Halifax; several cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, William (Hank) Mustin; brothers, Gerald (Halifax); Wallace Samson (Scarborough, Ont.); Joseph "Bud" Samson (Ottawa). Arrangements are entrusted to Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Rd., Halifax, where visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday, January 1, 2007. Funeral mass will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday, January 2, in Blessed Mother Theresa Parish, St. Stephen's Site, Normandy Drive, Halifax, Rev. Charles Burke officiating. MARTIN, A. Blanche - 101, Spryfield, passed away March 2, 2007, in Dartmouth General Hospital, Dartmouth. Born in L'Ardoise, she was a daughter of the late Michael and Sarah (Briand) Rehberg. Blanche is survived by her son, Bill (Shirley), Halifax; sisters, Ada Barrett, St. Peters, Richmond Co.; Margaret Sampson, L'Ardoise; Dehila Bolduc, Spryfield; grandchildren, Michael, Nancy, Leslie, Susan, Steven, Ruth, Paul, Lisa; 18 great-grandchildren and three great great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, William; son, Joseph; sister, Sarah Landry; brothers, Joseph, John, and Murdock. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Rd., Spryfield (477-5601). There will be no visitation. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, March 16, in St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church, Spryfield, Father Rob Arsenault officiating.
