Last Will and Testament for Mary EWENS of Dibberford tithing, Broadwinsor, Dorset - 1715




In the Name of God Amen, I Mary EWENS of Dibberford tithing in the Parish of Broadwinsor in the County of Dorset, being weak of body, but of good and perfect mind and memory praise by given unto Almighty God for ? same do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner of all saving first and principally I commit my Soul into the hands of almighty God my maker and redeemer hoping through the merits death and compassion of my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ to have free pardon and full remission of my sins and my body I commit to dust to be buried in decent order at the discretion of my Executors hereafter mentioned and as touching all. Such worldly ????? as it hath pleased almighty god to bestow upon I dispose thereof as follows:

Imprimis I give unto my nephew Daniel EWENS, Son of my brother James the sum of Twenty pounds lawful money of Great Britain to be paid to him out of the money which is due from my brother Daniel EWENS with lawful interest when he shall arrive at the age of twenty and one years;

Item I do give and bequeath unto James EWENS son of my brother James EWENS the sum of Twenty pounds lawful money of Great Britain if he live to the age of twenty one years to be paid with interest and I give him also one piece of gold twenty seven shillings and sixpence and one pewter dish, but if he die before my will is [read] the sum of twenty pounds be paid to his brother John EWENS with interest when he arrive to the age of twenty and one years;

Item I give unto my nephew John EWENS son of my brother James EWENS the sum of Twenty pounds lawful money of Great Britain if he live to the age of twenty one years to be paid with interest and I give him also one piece of gold twenty seven shillings and sixpence and one great silver spoon and one pewter dish;

Item I give and bequeath unto my sister Hannah ADAMS all my wearing apparel both linen and woollen guinea and one pewter dish and one chest and my great plain gold ring;

Item I give unto my niece Anne EWENS daughter of my brother James EWENS the sum of Ten pounds lawful money of Great Britain to be paid when she arrive at the age of Twenty and One years with its interest, but if she die before then my will is that the sum of Ten Pounds be paid to her sister Hannah EWENS with its interest when she arrive at the age of twenty and one years;


Item I give and bequeath unto my niece Hannah EWENS daughter of my brother James EWENS ten pounds lawful money of Great Britain provided she live to the age of twenty and one years to be paid with lawful interest, but if she happens to die before then I will that the sum of ten pounds be paid to her sister Anne EWENS when she shall arrive unto the age of twenty and one years with lawful interest and I have my niece Hannah EWENS one guinea and one silver spoon;

Item I do give unto my brother Daniel's daughter Susannah EWENS the sum of five pounds to be paid with it lawful interest when she shall arrive at the full age of twenty and one years and one ????? and my ????? ring;

Item I give unto my Executors, hereafter mentioned, the sum of twenty shillings apiece for their trouble, also my will is that is any loss shall happen in any of my money that is now at interest, my Executors in Trust shall not be bound to make it good.

Item I give unto Elizabeth EWENS daughter of my brother John EWENS one guinea;

Item After all my debts legacies and funeral charges are paid and discharged I do give and dispose all my goods and money whatsoever unto my Nephew Joseph EWENS son of my Brother James EWENS if he arrive to the age of twenty and one years, but if he dies before then I give the sum to my Brother James' son John EWENS in the same manner as before with its interest and then my will is that he the son of John EWENS pay his brother James above the sum of Twenty Pounds lawful British money and if neither of my two nephews James EWENS or John EWENS shall live to the full age of one and twenty years then my will is that what I have given my Nephew Joseph EWENS be equally distributed amongst the rest of my brother James EWENS his children and p?????? as they arrive to the age of twenty and one years;

Lastly I make constitute and appoint my brother Daniel EWENS and my brother in law Robert ADAMS joint and sole Executors in trust of this my last will and testament, entreating them that all things above mentioned be duly and faithfully performed according to the true intent and meaning hereof. I hereby revoke all former wills and testaments my me heretofore made and ratified and confirm this to be my last will and testament.

Witness whereof I have here unto set my hand and seal this 19th day of August in the 2nd year in the reign of our Sovereign Lord King George and in the year of our Lord 1715.
