Extracted from Lilley's Map of Portland for 1892

1836. Wesleyan Chapel established at Southwell.*

A small Methodist Chapel is recorded as being in existence at Southwell since 1849, and according to JH Bettey's research shown in "The Island and Royal Manor of Portland," p 89, there was room for a congregation of about 103 in 1851. See the Underhill Wesleyan Methodist Church for the few details that exist for this chapel in 1905. *
