In 1755 fifty Marine companies, based on the three port divisions of Chatham, Portsmouth and Plymouth, were formed under Admiralty control. In 1802 their title was changed to the Royal Marines.

The following, extracted from scrap paper used by the original binder to line the boards of a book dated 1787. were rescued and sent to me gratis by Dawn of Charnwood Books, who couldn't "bear to throw them away;" thanks Dawn !

They would appear to have been intended for an Army List or similar publication, where Marine officers were included for some years. I should be grateful for any corrections and additional information regards my comments on these lists.

The first listing, in alphabetical order, is made up from the 700 or so officers mentioned :

1. Marine Officers on Half-Pay - which includes their rank, and an
2. Index to the Half-Pay - which includes page numbers,

thus the listing includes some duplicates. In the interest of better web page searching I've replaced the long 's' i.e. "f," with the letter "s" in most cases.
