General Notes: Boats with "N" "0" and "P" names, all Emergency War Programme; the War boats with "M" names, Emergency War Programme, but part of their cost was met by the provision in 1914-15 Navy Estimates for ten destroyers. The Pre-War M's, 1913-14 Programme. Proved a remarkably successful type of Destroyer, although not so fast as the Thornycroft and Yarrow "M's."

To distinguish: Easily distinguished by their three, small round funnels, with 4 inch mounted between second and third funnels. Can be separated from the Admiralty R's by the after 4 inch not being mounted in "bandstand." The Repeat M's have raking stems; the Pre-War M's have rather shorter funnels.

War Losses.--Repeat M's: Pheasant (Fairfield), Partridge (Swan Hunter). War M's: Narborough (Clydebank), Opal (Doxford), Mary Rose, Negro, North Star (all Palmer), Nomad (Stephen), Marmion. Nessus, Nestor (all Swan Hunter). Pre-R War M's: No losses.
