CARLISLE (Capetown same.)
- Displacement, 4190 tons.
- Complement, about 330 - 350.
- Length: p.p. 425 feet; o.a. 451.5., Beam: 43.5 feet. Draught: mean 14 feet; max. 16.33 feet.
- Guns: 5 - 6 inch, 50 cal. (Dir. Con.) ; 2 - 3 inch A.A. ; 4 - 3 pdr. ; 2 - 2 pdr. pom-pom ; 1 M.G.
- Torpedo Tubes (21 inch): 8 above water, in 4 double mountings.
- Armour (H.T.): 3" Side (amidships) ; 2.25" - 1.5" Side (bow) ; 2" side (stern) ; 1" Upper decks (amids.) ; 1" Deck over rudder ; (No C.T. or tube).
- Machinery: Turbines (all-geared), Brown-Curtis or Parsons types. Designed S.H.P. 40,000 = 29 kts. 2 screws. Boilers: - Yarrow.
- Fuel (oil only) : normal, 300 tons ; maximum, 950 tons.

General Notes: Emergency War Programme ships, ordered June - July, 1917, that is, after the first three units of " D Class " (Danae, Dragon. Dauntless) were ordered. In these ships, " trawler bows " were added, to remedy defects shown by Ceres and Calypso classes. Conning tower also abolished, and hangar for aeroplanes combined with chart-house. Unofficially referred to as " Repeat C Class."
To distinguish: From Danae and other D Cruisers - no 6-inch gun between foremast and first funnel. From Ceres class, by " trawler bows " and aeroplane hangar before tripod mast.
