  • Displacement, 3750 tons.
  • Complement, 324.
  • Length, 420 (p.p.), 446 (o.a.) feet., Beam, 41.5 feet. Draught mean 14.5 feet. Draught max. 16 feet.
  • Guns: Calliope: 4 - 6 inch (Dir. Con.); 2 - 3 inch AA. 1 M.G.
  • Torpedo tubes: Calliope: 2 - 21 inch* submerged *4 - 21 inch above water reported added 1919.
  • Guns: Champion: 4 - 6 inch (Dir. Con.) 1 - 4 inch AA. 1 - 3 pdr. AA.
  • Torpedo tubes: Champion: 6 - 21 inch above water.
  • Armour (H.T.) : 4" Side (amidships); 2.25" - 1.5" Forward; 2.5" - 2" Aft; 1" Deck (amidships); 1" Deck over rudder hd. (Hadfield); ((6" C.T & 2" Tube) removed ?)
  • Plans generally same as Cambrian class on another page.
  • Ahead: 1 - 6 in. ; Broadside: 4 - 6 in. (- 21 in tubes) ; Astern 2 - 6 in.
  • Machinery: Turbines (all-geared), Parsons. Screws: 4 in Calliope, 2 in Champion. Designed S.H.P. in Calliope, 37,500 ; in Champion, 40,000 = 28-5 kts. in both ships. Boilers : 8 Yarrow.
  • Fuel (oil only): 405 tons, normal; maximum, 772 tons.

General Notes.- Begun under 1913-14 Estimates, with 6 Caroline class, on next page. Same hull, &c but all-geared turbines adopted. Also carry less oil fuel, have thicker side plating, and - of course - one funnel less.

Note: Calliope very badly damaged by oil fuel fire at sea, November, 1919. If not scrapped, she will require extensive re-construction before she can return to service.
