Peter Bowman 1
Minister in the German Baptist Brethren church (then commonalty called "Dunker", now known as Church of the Brethren). The "Brethren" are one of the "Anabaptist" religions which also include Swiss and German Mennonites and include the Amish Mennonites.
According to A History of Rockingham County Virginia by John W. Wayland, published in 1912, in 1736, a Peter Bowman bought 400 acres from Jacob Stover on the west side of the Sherundo (Shenandoah) River. Peter Bowman sold this tract in 1737. 2
Peter had taken his musket and ridden his horse to the forest to hunt. Near dusk, his horse returned alone. A light snow allowed searchers to find Peter. He had slipped on an incline and fallen. The impact of the fall discharged the gun into his chest. He was dead.

Ein Zeugniss von der Taufe (A Testimony on Baptism) Peter married Mary Heatwole, daughter of Jacob Hutwohl and Magdalena Hass, in Pennsylvania. (Mary Heatwole was born on 18 Dec 1766 in Lancaster Co., Pennsylvania, died in Feb 1833 in Rockingham Co., Virginia and was buried in Bowman Family Cemetery, War Branch/Peaked Mountain, Rockingham Co., Virginia 3.) |
