bullet  Research Notes:

The records of Trinity Lutheran Union Church in Springfield Township, Bucks Co., Pennsylvania show "Christian Haas of Christian Haas & Margaret, b. Oct 27, 1784, bapt. Dec 5, 1784". Christian's gravestone says that he was born Dec 15, 1784.

The record of his marriage in 1809, Christian was listed as "Haase".

The 1810 census shows "Christian Hause, Jun." in Rockingham Co., Virginia (page 136) -- 1 male and 1 female between 16 & 26 years old and one male under 10.

Served as a private in the War of 1812 in the 116th Regiment, Rockingham, Third Division, from the 30th August 1814 to the 28th February 1815.

The 1820 census shows "Christian Hawse, Jr." in Rockingham Co., Virginia (page 141) -- 1 male and 1 female between 26 & 45 years old, 2 males under 10, 1 male between 10 & 16, and 2 females under 10; farmer.

On 11 Sep 1824, Christian & Susanah Hawse, John & Elizabeth Bowman, Peter & Elizabeth Bowman, Edward & Mary Bowman, Jacob & Elizabeth Bowman, Martin Bowman, and Samuel Bowman sold William & Elizabeth Keister 369 acres on Muddy Creek in Rockingham Co., Virginia for $1. The sellers were the children of Peter Bowman (deceased) spouses. Elizabeth Keister was the daughter of Peter Bowman. Susanah Hawse and Elizabeth Bowman each signed with an "x".

On 28 Mar 1829, Christian & Susanna Hawse sold 1/8 of a 385-acre tract for $325. Susanna and her siblings had each inherited 1/8 from her father, Peter Bowman. The sale was to Jacob Bowman, Susanna's brother.

On 28 Jan 1830 John & Elizabeth Bowman, Christian & Susanna Hawse, John & Mary Ludwick sold 55 acres on the banks of Muddy Creek to, John, Susanna, and Mary's brother, Peter Bowman for $1. This land had been inherited from Peter Bowman. Also on 28 Jan 1830 John & Elizabeth Bowman, Christian & Susanna Hawse, Peter & Elizabeth Bowman sold 76 acres on the banks of Muddy Creek to John Ludwick for $1. This land had been inherited from Peter Bowman. Also on 28 Jan 1830 Peter & Elizabeth Bowman, Christian & Susanna Hawse, John & Mary Ludwick sold 55 acres to John Bowman. This land had been inherited from Peter Bowman. Apparently, this resulted in an exchange and there might have one or more other deeds recorded that day. Both Susanna Hawse and Mary Ludwick signed with an "x".

The 1830 census shows "Christopher Hause, Jr." in Rockingham Co., Virginia (page 222) -- 1 male between 40 & 50 and 1 female between 30 & 40 years old, 2 females between 5 & 10, 3 males and 1 female between 15 & 20, and 1 male between 20 & 30.

The 1840 census shows "Christian Hawse, Jr." in Rockingham Co., Virginia (page 106) -- 1 male between 50 & 60 years old, and 1 female between 40 & 50 years old, 1 male between 10 & 15, 1 female between 16 & 20, 1 female between 20 & 30, and one male between 80 & 90 (probably Christian Sr.).

In 1847, Christian sold a parcel of land that he had acquired from John Bowman, Peter Bowman, and John Ludwick on 28 Jan 1830. The record was badly damaged by fire. It seems to be paying a debt by both Christian Hawse Jr. and Sr. to Samuel Cootes and Allen Bryan who was a lawyer.

The 1850 census shows "Christian Haws" in Harrisonburg Twp., Rockingham Co., Virginia (page 047) -- 66 years old, farmer, value of real estate $1700, born in Pennsylvania, married to Susanna.

The 1860 census shows "Christley Haws", age 75 farmer born in PA living in Harrisonburg Twp., Rockingham Co., Virginia with Mary Whisler, his daughter.

On 15 Sep 1860 Christian Hawse, Jr. sold a former schoolhouse lot to Elias Emsweller.

The 1870 census shows "Chrisley Haas" in Linville Twp., Rockingham Co., Virginia (page 209) -- 84 years old, born in Virginia. he was living with his daughter, Mary Whisler, and her husband.

Rockingham Co., Virginia death record says that "Christian Hawse" was 86 years old and that he was born in "Rockingham" (probably incorrect). 15 2 16 17 18 19 20 21 22
