bullet  General Notes:

Farmer. Family legend says that Alexander was orphaned about 1848. He would have been four years old. Legend has it that he was raised by "an old German couple".

Shortly after his marriage, Alexander and his bride moved north from Miamisburg, Montgomery Co., Ohio to Hamler, Marion Township in Henry County Ohio. Alexander's brother, James lived in nearby Deshler. About "the turn of the century" Alexander moved from Hamler Ohio to Athens, Limestone Co., Alabama (near Huntsville). It took over four months by covered wagon. They lived in Alabama about four years before returning to Ohio. Sons, Earle, Pearle, John and George Burk all married in Alabama. Later, Alexander moved to Butler, Branch Co., Michigan.

bullet  Research Notes:

There is no confirmation that Alexander was born or lived in Miamisburg, Montgomery Co., Ohio. However, (Ivan) John Burk said that his father knew this directly from Alexander .

The 1860 census for Crawford Twp., Wyandot Co., Ohio shows Alexander Burke, 15, born in Ohio. John, Elizabeth, and James are at the same household.

According to (Ivan) John Burk, Alexander's death certificate said that his father was named John.
