bullet  Research Notes:

It is likely that this person immigrated from Germany by ship from Rotterdam to Philadelphia. He might have been unmarried at the time.

In the winter of 1709, a Johan Christian Haus/Hauss/House immigrated from Wetzler, Alten Staeden, Duchy of Solm, Germany to the Mohawk Valley in New York. He was a carpenter and a widower with six sons. On 27 Sep 1710 he married Maria Catherina, widow of Johann Becker. One or more of Christian's sons moved to Ontario, Canada during the Revolution. It seems unlikely that is the Haas line documented herein.

A Hass or Haas family was established perhaps as early as 1710 at the Pequea settlement on Pequea Creek, Conestoga (subsequently Lancaster county, organized 1729). Shortly after 1760, several members of this family purchased land on the South Branch of the Potomac River and on the Cacapon River in Hampshire Co., Virginia (now West Virginia). This is probably a different Haas family line from the one featured in this database.

A very few members of the de Haas family came to Philadelphia in colonial America. Most members of the de Haas family came to New York in the post-colonial period. This is a Dutch name and is probably not related to this family line.

There was an Otto Haase who in 1763-1771 was the pastor of Trinity Lutheran Union Church in Springfield Township, Bucks Co., Pennsylvania. Christian Haas Jr was christened there in 1784. Otto Haase was also the pastor of the Tohickon Lutheran Church Bedminster Township, Bucks Co., Pennsylvania in 1762-1764. 1 2 3 4
