EASTLAND
William EASTLAND (1832 - ?) was a mariner
According to the 1871, 1881, 1891 and 1901 census – he is born in London in 1831 or 2.
I believe he was born to William and Martha (nee PAYNE) EASTLAND and baptised 26 February 1832 at St Andrews, Holburn, London. His sister Martha Louisa was baptised in 1833 in the same church. She is found with her aunt and uncle, James and Louisa PAYNE in the 1851 census. They are from Gorleston, Suffolk, now Norfolk.
William EASTLAND (1808 – bef 1862), their father, was a butler at Queens Square in Holburn, London, at the time of William and Martha Louisa’s baptisms. There is also a son John Payne EASTLAND, born in 1835, who becomes a seaman in 1850, and registers in Yarmouth, just north of Gorleston.
None of the above children or parents are on the 1841 Census, only Martha Louisa is on the 1851 and 1861 Census. David may have ended up in the US.
William EASTLAND (1808 - ?) and Martha PAYNE were married in Clerkenwell in 1833. There is an EASTLAND family from Clerkenwell in the 1700s, who made spectacles.
William EASTLAND (1832 - ?) married Jane Ann DAGLISH in 1862. By that time his father is listed as deceased and an ex mariner.
In 1871 the EASTLANDS lived in Gateshead
1881 and 1891 the EASTLANDS lived in Newcastle on Tyne
In 1901 the EASTLANDS are south of Newcastle on Tyne and west of Gateshead. William is 70years of age his is working as a Watchman at a Sawmill
William and Jane Ann (nee DAGLISH) EASTLAND had a daughter Sarah Jane born about 1863, Edith Martha born about 1865, who was a domestic in 1891, a son, William, born about 1870,who is a Tailor in 1901, Joseph, born about 1872, who was a hairdresser apprentice in 1891, Alice M born about 1875. The names follow the Scottish naming pattern.
