Paslay, Modine Margaret McClain

Modine M. Paslay of Springfield died December 16 of age-related causes. She was 81. A private family service is planned. Burial will be at Lane Memorial Gardens in Eugene.
She was born March 5, 1928, in Hot Springs National Park, Arkansas, to Burton and Edith Roper McClain. She married William C. Paslay on September 27, 1946, in Hot Springs, Arkansas.
She had a high school education and worked at Eugene Fruit Growers and Agripac before retiring in 1990. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Linda Stone of Springfield; two sons, Ron and Rick, both of Springfield; a sister, Geneva Griffith of Hot Springs; five brothers, Coy McClain and Bert McClain, both of Winston, Oregon, O. D. McClain of Henderson, Nevada, Stanley McClain of Sioux City, Nebraska, and Bill McClain of Red Bluff, California; and seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Payne, Hattie Allison

Mrs. W. B. Payne, Conway resident since 1920, dies. Mrs. Hattie Payne, 78, a resident of Conway since 1920, died at a hospital here Sunday. Mrs Payne was stricken with a heart attack while visiting in Dallas, Texas, a month ago, and her condition worsened following her return to Conway. Her husband, W. B. Payne, died in 1945. Her home was at 115 College Avenue. Mrs. Payne was born at Little Rock May 22, 1876, a daughter of the late Dr. William Allison and Mrs. Elizabeth Vance Allison. She was a Baptist. She lived at Bee Branch prior to her removal to Conway. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Fred W. Malpica of Conway and Mrs. G. William Harrell of Dallas, three grandsons and one granddaughter. Funeral services were to have been conducted at Pence's Funeral Home this afternoon, by the Rev. James H. Street and the Rev. Charles B. Hoglan and burial was to have been made in Oak Grove Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Robert C., Gus, Tommie and Will Allison, Howard Lawrence, Marvin Cantrell and Ralph Payne. Honorary pallbearers were named to include Dr. Ed L. Dunaway, Dr. F. Peel Allison, Dr. Fred Gordy, Herman Benton, Ken Estes, John W. McCracken, John Lawrence, Ernest Stood, O. L. Dunaway, Felix Balmax, Yillian and Wallace Harrell and K. C. David J. Peeler of Benton died Wednesday, June 7, 2000. He was 78. He was born October 25, 1921, in Benton. He was a member of the United Pentecostal Church of Salem and was the retired owner and operator of Service Cab Co. Survivors include his wife, Pearl Peeler; a son, James D. Peeler of Benton; 2 daughters, Louise Sutton of Bauxite and Pat Bradberry of Benton; 4 sisters, Helen Ross and Elsie Whitley of Benton, Anna Pickard of Beebe, and Wilma Hass of Daly City, California; 3 brothers, Plummer Peeler of Malvern, John Peeler of Ft. Worth, Texas, and J. W. Peeler of Tucson, Arizona; and 4 grandchildren. Funeral will be held at 10 am today at Ashby Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Art Deascentis will officiate. David Turner Peeler, aged 81, of Benton died Sunday. He was a retired farmer, a former State Hospital employee and a member of the Pentecostal Church. Survivors include four sons, David J. Peeler of Benton, Plummer B. Peeler of San Francisco, J. W. Peeler of Tuscon, Arizona, and John P. Peeler of Florida; five daughters, Mrs. Wilma Hass of San Francisco, Mrs. Helen Ross, Mrs. Anna L. Piccard and Mrs. Elsie Whitley, all of Benton, and Mrs. Faith Cox of Harrisburg; 4 sisters, Mrs. Lillian Nalley, Mrs. Frances Smith, Mrs. Wilma Wilbanks and Mrs. Irene Wilson, all of Benton; 31 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Peeler, Eula Carlisle

Eula Peeler of Benton died Wednesday, November 8, 1993. She was 92. She was a homemaker and a member of First United Methodist Pentecostal Church of Benton. Survivors are four sons, David Peeler of Benton, Plumber Peeler of Malvern, J. W. Peeler of Arizona and John Peeler of Springville, Missouri; five daughters, Wilma Carden of Daily City, California, Helen Ross of Benton, Faitha Cox of Harrisburg, Anna Pickard of Beebe and Elsie Whitley of Benton; a sister, Bertha Blakely of Paron; 31 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren. Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at First United Pentecostal Church of Benton with the Revs. James Verdier, Rick Lumpkins and O. D. Crabtree officiating. Burial will be at Fowler Cemetery in Paron by Ashby Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home... (source unknown)

Frances O. Peeler, aged 61, of Benton died Sunday. She was retired from the laundry department at Benton Services Center and a member of First Pentecostal Church of the Salem community. She is survived by her husband, David J. Peeler; one son, James D. Peeler of Benton; 2 daughters, Louise Sutton and Pat Bradberry of Benton; 4 brothers, Wayne H. Sheridan, Bobby L. Sheridan and Carlee Sheridan of Benton and Raymond Sheridan of Traskwood; one sister, Arla Mae Caple of Bryant; and 3 grandchildren, Karen Sutton, Kim Sutton and Kristy Bradberry. Funeral will be at 11 am Tuesday at Ashby Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev James L. Robertson, Sr., and the Rev. Glen Cox officiating. Burial will be in Peeler Bend Cemetery. Pallbearers are Dennis Hughes, Manuel Carman, Roy Harberson, Leon Pickard, Gary Whitley and Plummer Peeler. The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 tonight for visitation. Peeler, James Eugene

James Eugene Peeler, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. David Peeler, who died Tuesday afternoon, was buried Wednesday morning at New Prospect cemetery. (Benton Courier; September 27, 1923; page 1)
On September the 25th the death angel visited the home of Mr. and Mrs. David Peeler and took home from them their darling little baby, James Eugene. His life on earth was but a short stay, only six short months, but God in His wisdom knew best. He thought best to take him to be a flower in heaven, for we know that such as he do not die only leave this world of sin and suffering to live with God and the angels on high. It is very hard to have to see them taken from us only those who have had the same experience can sympathize with them and know how their hearts ache. Dear father and mother, you can only look heavenward and know that you have still a greater tie in heaven for little James is at rest in the arms of Jesus, where he will not have to suffer as he did while here on earth. He was laid to rest in the Sharon cemetery, Wednesday afternoon, Sept 26. he leaves a father, mother, and one little brother to mourn his loss...poem...Written by a friend, Lexie Collins. Peeler, Jessie Richard

Jessie Richard Peeler, aged 82, of Benton, a retired farmer, died Tuesday at a local rest home. He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene. Survivors include a son, Edward Peeler of Flint, Michigan, a daughter, Mrs. Ruby Turner of Benton; a brother, Sherwood Peeler of Benton; a half-brother, Dave Peeler of Benton; 5 half-sisters, Mrs. Sam Nalley, Mrs. Dolly Wilbanks, Mrs. Edith Collins, Mrs. Jim Smith and Mrs. Phillip Wilson, all of Benton; and 11 grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2:30 pm Wednesday at the Mulberry Church of the Nazarene by Rev. H. O. Kelley. Burial was at McPherson Cemetery by Harrison Funeral Home. Peeler, Laura Ellen Fletcher

Mrs. Laura Fletcher Peeler, aged 92 of Benton died Thursday, May 28, at a hospital here. She was the widow of James W. Peeler and a lifelong resident of Saline County. Survivors include a son, Dave Peeler; a stepson, Sherwood Peeler; five daughters, Mrs. Fred Collins, Mrs. Sam Nalley, Mrs. Jim Smith, Mrs. Virgie Wilbanks and Mrs. Phillip Wilson, all of Benton, 57 grandchildren, 128 great-grandchildren and 43 great-great-grandchildren. Before her marriage, Mrs. Peeler was Laura E. Fletcher, sister of the late John Fletcher. She was a member of the First Pentecostal Church of Benton. Funeral services were held Saturday, May 30 in the Ashby Chapel at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Fred Harville and Rev. James C. Verdier officiating. Pallbearers were: grandsons, Roland L. Wilson, Martin R. Wilson, Harvey G. Smith, Ronnie D. Smith, Gerald E. Wilson, James P. Wilson and Roy E. Wilson. Honorary pallbearers were Virgil Fletcher, J. L. Fletcher, Ray Taylor, Don Rea and Jack Bullard.

Penn, Virginia Honea Stephens

Virginia Honea Penn, 84, died Wednesday, October 24, 2007.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Thompson's Harveson & Cole Funeral Home. Virginia's brother, the Rev. Bert Honea, Jr., will officiate. Interment will be at Greenwood Memorial Park. Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Ray Armstrong, Chad Arnette, Grant Fortney, Mike Kensel, Cleve Lancaster, Payne Lancaster, Jesse Raglin, Brandon Rutledge, Jack Schutts, Grady Shropshire, Chad Stephens and Bob Watt.
Memorials: Her memory may be honored with a gift to the Humane Society, 1840 E. Lancaster Ave., Fort Worth 76103. Virginia was born February 10, 1923, in Fort Worth, daughter of the late Mary Louise and Bertrand N. Honea. She attended The Hockaday School for girls, Farmington and Miss Semples College in New York City. She was a member of the Assembly, River Crest Country Club, Colonial Country Club and St. Andrews Episcopal Church. She lived all of her life in Fort Worth where her life revolved around her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her main love was traveling with family. Special cruises were shared with granddaughters, Chelle, Lee and Caroline. Other favorite vacations were trips to Las Vegas with grandson, Chad, and their good friend, Brandon Rutledge. A special gathering for her 80th birthday was held in New Orleans, where she celebrated with her entire family.
Virginia was very interested in the care and protection of animals, especially dogs. Many years ago she traveled with her dear friend, Dorothy King, to visit a national seeing eye dog facility in Pennsylvania, which she continued to support throughout the years. Virginia also supported the American Brain Tumor Association in honor of her granddaughter.
She was an accomplished pianist, and her other interests included reading and needlepoint. Above all, she most enjoyed the family gatherings.
She was thoughtful, generous, gracious and unique. She had a great sense of humor and reminded us to always be able to laugh at ourselves first. Virginia lived a long and wonderful life, but to those who loved her, it was still too short. She will truly be missed. Survivors: Her son, Michael Honea Stephens and his wife, Sandy of Dallas; daughter, Olive Virginia Penn of Fort Worth; grandchildren, Michelle "Chelle" Stephens Lancaster and her husband, Payne, Chad Stephens and his wife, Danielle, all of Dallas, Lee Shopshire Fortney and her husband, Grant of Houston, and Caroline Shropshire Arnette and her husband, Chad of Fort Worth; great-grandchildren, Mary Sullins and Chase Lancaster, Charlie and Georgia Stephens, Claire and Marguerite Fortney, Charles, OliveAnne and Isabelle Arnette; brother, Bert Honea, Jr., and his wife, Patricia; sister, Patricia Honea Schutts and her husband, Jack, all of Fort Worth; many nieces, nephews and cousins.    (from the Star-Telegram)

Pranter, Martha Cobb

Mount Ida - Martha Cobb Pranter, 73, of Mount Ida died Sunday, June 3, 2001, in a local hospital.
Born February 8, 1928, in Hot Springs to Arthur and Ouida Cobb, she was a member of National Park Christian Church.  She was predeceased by two brothers, Louis Cobb and Dan Cobb; and two sisters, Elizabeth Laughlin and Margaret Johnson.
Survivors include her husband, Bert Pranter of Mount Ida; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Charles A. and Anita Pranter of Wichita, Kansas, Bert C. and Rebecca Pranter of North Little Rock and Billy Pranter of Hot Springs; one grandson, David Pranter, and two brothers, Charles William Cobb of Batesville and Jess A. Cobb of Hot Springs.
The body will be cremated.
Memorials may be made to National Park Christian Church.

Prichard, Mattie Wright

Mrs. Mattie Prichard, aged 82, of Benton died Sunday, January 2. She was a Baptist and the widow of Lon Prichard. Survivors include five sons, Henry and Joe Prichard of Benton, Paul Prichard of Mississippi, Kelley Prichard of Texas, and Lon Prichard, Jr., of Virginia; two daughters, Mrs. Rosie Ray of New Mexico and Mrs. Lilly Broadway of California; a brother, Tom Wright of Benton; a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Tinker of Texas; 34 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
