Nalley, Lillian Gertrude Peeler Wilson
Mrs. Lillian Peeler Wilson Nalley, 89, of Benton, died Friday. Mrs. Nalley was a member of First Pentecostal Church and a hospital volunteer. Visitation will be from 7-9 pm today at the funeral home. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Ashby Funeral Home by the Revs. J. C. Verdier and O. D. Crabtree. Burial will be in Hicks Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Survivors are three sons, Roland Wilson and Martin Wilson, both of Benton and Dr. Samuel Nalley of Tennessee; six daughters, Mrs. Shirley Langley, Mrs. Ellen Wilson, Mrs. Irene Kane, Mrs. Mary Weise, and Mrs. Jimmie Vance, all of Benton, and Mrs. Ann Taylor of Lonsdale; two stepsons, James Nalley of California and the Rev. Dan Nalley of Little Rock; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Mary Ruth Bledsoe and Mrs. Esther Jane, both of California; three sisters, Mrs. Francis Smith, Mrs. Wilma Wilbanks, and Mrs. Irene Wilson, all of Benton; 38 grandchildren, 66 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
Nalley, Samuel David
Samuel D. Nalley, 59, Benton, an electrician since 1942 and a former Reynolds Metals Company employee, died in the Veterans Administration Hospital in Little Rock Wednesday afternoon. He was a member of the First Pentecostal Church. He is survived by his wife, Lillian; three sons, Sammy Nalley of Benton, James and Daniel Nalley of Long Beach, California, two daughters, Mrs. Mary Ruth Bledsoe and Mrs. Esther Jane Bishop of Long Beach, California, two stepsons, Rowland and Rudolph Wilson of Route 3, Benton, six stepdaughters, Mrs. Shirley Langley, Mrs. Ellen Wilson, Mrs. Ann Taylor, Mrs. Irene Kane, Mary Lou Weise and Mrs. Jimmie Vance all of Benton, his mother, Mrs. Rosie Nalley of Napa, California; four sisters, Mrs. Mary Potter, Mrs. Beula Allred, Mrs. Norene Nesbit of Napa, California, Mrs. Bessie Marine of Benton, three brothers, Hughie and Hubert Nalley of Napa, California, and Charley Nalley of San Francisco, California, and 37 grandchildren. Newell, Martin Clinton
Angleton--Martin Clinton Newell, 82, of Angleton died Friday at a Victoria hospital.
He had lived in Angleton for more than 50 years, was a rancher and a retired employee of Brazoria County. A member of the First United Methodist church in Angleton, he had served the church on the administrative board and the church board of trustees. He also was a member of the church 55-Plus Club, the Brazoria County Cattleman's Association and the American Association for Retired Persons.
He was born April 4, 1907, in Corsicana, son of the late Joseph Judson Newell and Mary Hardin Newell.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at the First United Methodist Church in Angleton. The Rev. Fred Carter, Jr., and the Rev. Eldon Reed will officiate.
Burial will be in Angelton Cemetery. Palms Funeral Home of Angleton will be in charge of arrangements.
He was survived by his wife, Mary Ray Newell of Angleton; two daughters, Eloise Fonville of Angleton and Helen McCormack of Edna; a sister, Willie Fleeman of Ganada; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be grandsons Dale R. Fonville, Bryan Clinton Fonville, William Patrick McCormack, Jr., Joseph E. McCormack, Vann Whitley and Michael W. Menefee.
Honorary pallbearers will be Eugene Addison, A. B. Williamson, Homer Brady, Joe Ward, Bill McDaniel, Buddy Hargrove, Harold Lewis, Caulley Munson, John Fuchs, Dr. Bruce Bauknight and Louis Gardner. (from the Victoria Advocate, Sunday, February 4, 1990, page 12A)
Newkirk, John James
John J. Newkirk, 79, of Hot Springs died Saturday, June 20, in his home.
Born November 14, 1918, in Jessieville, he was a former employee at C. J. Horner, and F. C. Stearn's Hardware, administrative assistant to the Garland County Judge 1968-72, a member of Central Baptist Church and a deacon. He was predeceased by two brothers, Jeff and Howard Newkirk; and a sister, Esther Ziegler.
Survivors include his wife, Jerry Newkirk of Hot Springs; one son, John J. Newkirk, Jr., of Little Rock; two daughters and a son-in-law, Diane Gatling of Bryant and Jana and Ronnie McKnight of Bryant; three brothers, Alvin Newkirk of Monroe, Louisiana; Witt Newkirk of New Boston, Texas; and Ward Newkirk of Little Rock; and five grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Caruth-Hale Funeral Home chapel with Brother Coy Sample and Dr. Rex Horne, Jr., officiating.
Pallbearers will be Paul Gatling, David Gatling, Alvin Shaw, Buddy Cortese, Jim Lockwood, Jimmy Walker and Bradley Johnson.
Honorary pallbearers are past and present deacons of Central Baptist Church, Dr. Martin Koehn, Doyne Russell, Floyd Hays and Jimmy Walker.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today.
Burial will be in Crestview Cemetery.
