Williams, Joseph
Joseph Williams was born in Massachusetts on Jan 8, 1862 and died March
27, 1942 at his home south of Gravois mills. He was 80 years old.
Deah due to heart failure. He came to Gravois Mills as a small boy
with his parents in 1869 locating near Gravois Mills. At age 16 he
carried the mail from Gravois Mills to Cape Gleana and on to Linn Creek.
In 1893 he made brick on his place from which the Washburn Store and Dr.
Fish's building. He was a merchant for over 45 years.
"Uncle Joe" is survived by 1 sister-in-law: Jennie Williams; 4 nephews:
Harry and Warren Williams of Gravois Mills, Clarence and Fred Williams
of Barnett; 9 neices: Mrs. Edna Eggerman, Mrs. Belle Robinson, Mrs. Lucy
Williams all of Versailles, Mrs Ruth Goodman Canon City Colo; Mrs Fae Webb
of Gravois Mills; Mrs Della Marriott of Centertown; Mrs Rosa Johnson of
Eldon, Mrs. Myrtle Gorder of Etterville and Bertha of Michigan. Funeral
services by Rev. W.C. Ragan. He was the oldest child of the late
Joseph and Lillian Williams. He was preceded in death by his parents;
5 brothers and one sister. Burial was in the Ivy Cemetery.
