Purvis, George William
George William Purvis, 86, died 1946 at his
home. George William Purvis was a son of Mr. & Mrs. Henry Purvis,
Morgan county pioneers. Mr. Purvis was born May 30, 1860, on a farm
18 mies south of Versailles and a mile east of Highway 5. On July
30, 1905, Mr Purvis married Miss Jeanette "Nettie" Hodges of the Mt. Carameel
neighborhood. In his youth, Mr. Purvis taught school in Oklahoma
and in Camden county. Most of his life, however, he farmed and operated
a store on the home place. He joined White Hall Christian Chruch
which had it's services in White Hall School. When the Lake of the
Ozarks was costructed, it flooded the school, and the congregation never
was re-established.
Mrs. Purvis suffered a hear attack and was unable to leave
the home so the funeral was held at the home at 601 S. Fisher with the
Rev. Willard L Bright officiating. Internment in the city cemetery.
Services under direction of Kidwell Funeral Services. He was survived
by his wife; a son: Raph Purvis of the home and 1 sister Mrs. Fank
Hildebrand of Howard county. Pallbearers were: Willard Silvey, John
Chipley, Ivy Purvis, William Parkinson, Noble Wilson and Raymond Marriott.
Those attending from out of town were Mr. & Mrs. Frank Hildebrand of
Howard county, Mr. & Mrs. Raphel Purvis of Boonville Mo.
