Funeral services for Robert Ezra Cooper, victim of a tragic
accident which occured on Route W southeast of Versailles, during the early
morning hours of Thursday, April 18, 1956 were held from the Kidwell Funeral
Home Sunday April 21, 1956 at 2 pm with the Rev. E.D. Linebarger of teh
Versailles Revival Center officiating. Interment was in Versailles
cemetry. Mr. Cooper, a son of Josepyh and Nancy McGinnis Cooper was
born in Morgan county, November 25, 1893 and at the time of his death he
was 63 years of age. September 26, 1923 he was united in marriage
with Miss Sarah McGinnis and to this union were born 4 children.
An infant daughter preceded him in death. The surviving children
are Robert O. Cooper, Versailles,; Mrs Ludean Wood of Washougal, Washington
and Frances Williams of Versailles. 5 grand children. One brother
Lewis Cooper of Eldon, one sister, Mrs. Mollie Woods of Barnett, and neices
and nephews. For many years, Mr. Cooper was employed on a Rock Island
maintenance crew, retiring some years ago because of ill health.
Mrs Cooper who also survives, remains in a critical condition at Bothwell
Hospital. She is suffering from extensive burns, sustained in the accident
in which her husband died when the car they were riding in came in contact
with a 7200 volt Union Electric power line which had come loose and was
hanging across the roadway.
