Nancy Elizabeth Combs Sherman,
wife of George Sherman and a daughter of the late Hugh Borwn and Lucinda
Taylor Combs was morn in Moniteau Col. Mo. December 18, 1864 and died at
her home here on January 31, 1956 at the age of 91 years, 1 month and 13
days. She moved with her parents, when she was quite small, to Gravois
Mills, and when she was about 16 the family moved to Wheatland. She
married George Newton Sherman at Wheatland, Mo February 24, 1884.
They were the parents of 8 children. Those who preceded her in death
were: an infant, William T., Orlena Lou (Mrs Ila Brewer) and allen J. Sherman.
Besides her husband, she is survived by 2 daughters: Mrs. Sarah Harper
and Mrs. R.V. Williams and 1 son: Hugh Sherman all of Versailles; 1 brother
Tom Combs of San Bernadino California and 3 grandchildren: George Brewer
of Versailles, Joe Brewer of Kansas City and Mrs. A.C. Fullers of Peoria,
Illinois, whom she reared from childhood.; 16 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren
and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral was officiated by Rev. D. Watkins. Mrs Gene
Bartram sang, accompanied by Mrs. Lloyd Collins. Pallbearers were:
Speed Marriott, Jack Whittle, Clint Shore, Royce Moser, Quincy Garrison
and Elmer C. Cuchan. Interment was in the Versailles cemetery directed
by Kidwell's Funeral Home.
