Ellis Berkley, more familiarly known as "Street" Berkley, died at 1:00
o'clock Saturday morning at Versailles. He was 57 years of age. Mr.
Berkley had gone to a monument shop in Versailles late Friday afternoon
to select a monument to be erected at the grave of his late wife. He
suffered a cerebral hemorrhage while in the shop and when the physician
arrived he found his condition was serious and that he could not be
moved. He passed away a few hours later.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, March 5, at 2:30
o'clock at the Hopewell church. Rev. A. L. Alexander conducted the
service. He was assisted by Rev. Groseclose, pastor of the Lake Ozark
Christian
Church. Burial was made in the church Cemetery.
Mr. Berklely was born in Morgan County, Mo., October 4, 1888. He
was one of nine children born to Louis and Betty Wilson Berkley. His
parents, three sisters and two brothers have preceded him in death.
In early childhood he came from Morgan County, with his parents to
Miller County, near Eldon. His entire life has been spent in this
community. He was employed for a number of years as a guard at the
Missouri State Prison at Jefferson City. He was a veteran of the first
world war.
He was a member of the Green Ridge Baptist church.
On December, 16, 1943, he was united in marriage to Daisy Weaver of
Barnett. She preceded him in death September 14, 1945.
Surviving are two brothers and one sister, W. I. Berkley of
Versailles, Mo., Layte Berkley of Billings, Montana, and Mrs. G. R.
Cunningham of Lake Ozark, Mo.
He also leaves five nieces, four nephews, and a number of other
relatives.
