Rosella Mae Shockley, 72, Versailles, died March 27, 2001, at Capital
Healthcare Center, Jefferson City.
She was born June 25, 1928, in Salt Fork, Okla., a daughter of William
R. and Goldtenna Mack Thomas. She was married Jan. 10, 1944, in Versailles,
to Oral A. "Babe" Shockley, who died April 29, 1974.
She grew up near Gravois Mills and Versailles. She and her husband
farmed in the Hopewell and Barnett area for more than 25 years. She was
a member of the Christian Church of Hopewell.
Survivors include: one brother, Roy Thomas, Roakoke Rapids, N.C.; one
sister, Elsie Williams, Versailles; and one stepbrother, Roy C. Marriott
Jr., Columbia.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Kidwell-Garber Funeral Home,
Versailles. Ronnie Hess will officiate. Burial will be in Hopewell Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday.

Rosella Mae Shockley, 72, Versailles, died Tuesday, March 27, 2001,
at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City. She was born June 25,
1928, at Salt Fork, Okla., the daughter of William R. and Goldtenna Mack
Thomas. She came to Morgan County in 1934 with her family and grew up around
Gravois Mills and Versailles.
On Jan. 10, 1944, in Versailles she married Oral A. (Babe) Shockley,
who preceded her in death on April 29, 1974.
Mrs. Shockley and her husband lived on a farm in the Hopewell and Barnett
areas for 25 years. After Mr. Shockley died, she moved to Versailles with
her mother. Several years ago, she joined the Christian Church of Hopewell.
She is survived by a brother, Roy Thomas and wife, Linda, Roanoke Rapids,
N.C.; a sister, Elsie Williams, Versailles; a stepbrother, Roy C. Marriott
Jr., Columbia; three nephews, Wayne Thomas, Bill Thomas, and John Thomas;
four nieces Wnona Fischer, Alice Matthews, Tena Rhodes and Jeanette Baker;
and friends June Wry and Virginia Hess, who lived in her home when they
were young; the Wry and Loges children, Donnie Hess, Ronnie Hess, Ginger
Dutcher, Rick Wry, Barbara Boardman, Patty Wry and Sandy Loges; several
cousins; and a host of friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by
a brother, Ray Thomas; two sisters-in-law, Mary Jane Thomas and Gladys
Thomas; and a stepfather, Roy C. Marriott St.
Services were Saturday March 31 at the Kidwell- Garber Funeral Home
in Versailles, with Ronnie Hess officiating. Burial was in the Hopewell
Cemetery near Barnett. |
