4. Dow Houston CANTWELL (Reuben ) was born 1835 in Warren county, Tennessee.

Dow Houston reportedly lived in Indiana about 1858. In the 1880 cencus
he lived in Lancaster precinct, Wabash county, Illinois; near his brother
Thomas Bentopn and sister, Mary ARminta

Dow married (1) Sarah CANTRELL, daughter of Moses CANTRELL and Elizabeth (LNU wife of Moses) CANTRELL, before 1859.

Aunt Tennie listed Lewis Cantrell as the father of Sarah.

She died when Marvin Douglas was two weeks old, in April, 1860. We were
always told that Sarah was one-half Indian

5. Evaline Emaline CANTWELL (Reuben ) was born about 1836 in Warren county, Tennessee.

In 1870 Evaleen and her son, Wesley Jr., were living next to her parents
in Round Prarie township, Wabash county, Illinois.

Evaline married Wesley CANTRELL, son of Martin CANTRELL and Suzannah MCDOWELL, in Illinois. Wesley was born about 1822 in Indiana.

Wesley died during the Civil War.

7. Thomas Benton CANTWELL (Reuben ) was born Nov 11 1842 in Warren county, Tennessee. He died Jul 07 1905 in buried West Salem, Edwards county, Illinois.

Thomas was in the Union army from November1,1861 until July 20, 1865.
On November1,1861 he enlisted in Co. H 26th Illinois Volunteer Infantry.
Plagued with munps, measles and various illnesses. In March of 1862, he
and other sick soldiers were cared for in a country home between Commerce
and Madrid, Missouri. Rejoining his unit at Cornith, Mississippi; they
went by boat from Memphis to Vicksburg in June 1863. The company was
mustered out of Louisville, Kentucky on July 20,1865. He made
application for pension on Oct. 5, 1887 at which time he stated he was a
farmer, living in Lancaster townshio, Wabash county, Illinois. In
August, 1904, at West Salem, Benton says that during the frequent moves
he had lost his pension claims number. In January, 1905, he asked for
an increase in his pension to $30.00 per month. The increase apparently
was allowed. Last payment was made for July, 1905. Various witness for
Benton Cantwell's pensions applications and reports included: William
Matoon, George P. Davis, Bryant Higgins, and George Wagoner, all of
Olney, Ill, Berlin S. Johnson of Goodson, Polk county, Missouri. F.S.
Wiley and A. Pizley of West Salem, and daughter-in-law, Minnie E.
Cantwell, of West Salem, Edwards county, Illinois, in whose home Benton
had been taken care of for about four months, beginning in June, 1904.
On July 31,1905, Susan Rebecca Cantwell filed for pension stating she wa
the widow of Thomas Benton Cantwell.

In the 1850 census Thomas Benton is listed with his parents in Jackson
county, Tennessee. In 1880 in Lancaster Precint, Wabash county, Illinois.

Thomas married (1) Gladys UMN wife of Thomas CANTWELL.

Thomas also married (2) Susan Rebecca EASTER, daughter of Simon Peter EASTER and Catherine ESSEX, on Oct 23 1852 in Edwards county, Illinois. Susan was born in Warren county, Tennessee. She died Dec 27 1925.

On July 31,1905, Susan Rebecca Cantwell filed for pension stating she was
the widow of Thomas Benton Cantwell.
Susan is buried West Salem, Edwards county, Illinois

8. Adolphus CANTWELL (Reuben ) was born about 1845 in Warrren or Jackson county Tennessee. He died about 1910 in Purvis, Camden county, Missouri.

They lived in Edwards, Richland, and Crawford counties in Illinois and
Camden and Miller counties in Missouri
Died after the 1910 census of Camden county, when he was living alone
Buried in George Purvis cemetery, Purvis, Camden county, Missouri.

Adolphus married Martha Jane TOPLEY. Martha was born 1845 in Tennessee. She died before 1900.
