The cause of her death was Carcinoma of rectum - 2 years. In 1904 Jane was a Lady's Companion/maid to Miss Bethine (Bessie) Gray. They Travelled on the Orient Pacific Royal Mail Steamer "Orizaba" from London (12 Feb 1904) via Plymouth, Marseilles to Naples (21 Feb 1904). It is possible that she was on the Orizaba all the way to Sydney, based on the voyage information of the ship in 1905. It is also more than possible that this voyage stopped at Albany as it was a Mail ship. Then by the 16 May they were sailing on the "Manuka" for Brisbane, Suva, Honolulu, Victoria & Vancouver. Also on board both voyages was Mr M.H. Gray, Bessie's father. James Alexander Caldwell was not on the passenger list of either voyage and I can only assume that he was on the voyage from Naples to Brisbane. I have no knowledge of the trip. Wilfred was born on 11 Dec 1905 in Carterton, NZ and died on 11 Apr 1969 in Hastings, New Zealand at age 63. Farmed at Okautiti, Masterton, as manager for Maori Affairs Dept. He was a Farm Manager on 19 Oct 1846 in Masterton, New Zealand. Although Marriage Certificate states usual residence as Masterton, He was actually Farm Manager of a Farm at Homewood near the East Coast of Wairarapa. He was cremated on 14 Apr 1969 in Hastings, New Zealand.

OBITUARY - Mr R W Nicol
the death occurred recently of Mr R. W. (lofty) Nicol, of Khandallah, and ex servicemen who served in both world wars. At the age of 15 years he entered the merchant Navy in the First World War, and at the Second World War he was with the New Zealand Engineers, winning the Military Medal for gallant action in the Florence area. The funeral service in St Andrew's Church, The Terrace, was conducted by the Rev. J. S. Somerville, M. C.., and was attended by many friends and representatives of the R.S.A., the Seamen's and Watersider's Unions. Mr Somerville referred to Mr Nicol's kindness and large heartedness, his service to his country, and his deep religious faith.
Mr Nicol was born in Keith, Scotland. He is survived by his wife, and his mother and two sisters are living in Southampton, England.
