Christmas 2008

Dear friends and family
It has been some time since we updated you on the
progress of our new house. Last year was a most stressful time with getting the
house built and moving in. It was 5 months behind
In April we moved into our nearly completed house. My
Uncle, Aunt and Cousin – Norman, Loraine and Debbie came to visit from Oamaru.
We had just moved into the house. They were marvellous, took over and saved my
sanity.
Unfortunately things didn’t go as smooth as they
could have and we still have outstanding issues with the builder.
We
only had the water connected the morning we moved in! Now our moving in problems
are way behind us and we love what we have done with the house. The view is
In July we had two very big cyclone force storms hit
us. These were very scary with our huge glass doors flexing in the wind. But we
survived with nothing more than a fallen TV satellite dish. Over the past few months I have got into a great
routine of gym, shopping and patchwork with my friends here. It is something I
could never do before as working took up my whole life. Jack has moved his office to Snells Beach and set up
in our big Garage/workshop/office. Most often he works from home with only the
occasional trip into the city, a journey of just over 1 hour on a good day. Since moving in, our social life has increased 100%. With the help of my friends, we held a midyear Christmas dinner for 14, and then in October we had a big housewarming gathering to make money for our local hospice. This was most successful.
We have enjoyed beautiful days
In August Nikki, Shane & Tom came up for Tom’s 1st
birthday. We had a lovely time with them.
In September Shane got a new job in
Central Otago and they moved down to Cromwell. It is so ironic that Nikki should
end up living in the same town that her Great Grandparents first moved to in
1929. My cousins and Aunt are still there, so it is lovely for her to have some
family support now that baby no. 2 is due in January. I was down visiting in
early November and spent a great week getting to know my grandson. We now talk
on video phone (PC to PC) almost daily while he sits in his highchair and eats
his breakfast. Technology is great. Now that summer is starting to show signs of arriving,
Jack has been working trying to finish a deck outside my sewing room by
Christmas. Mid December we are taking the caravan and dog ( we
only have one dog now) and heading south. We will be in Cromwell for Christmas
and then perhaps make it over to Oamaru for New Years. Then we have to be back
on hand in January to look after Tom when needed. All in all we hope to be away
for 6 or 7 weeks.
With this message we are attaching several photos
of our house and our view. We hope you enjoy them We wish you the very best of Christmases and a safe
and prosperous New Year.
