MOUNT BURIAL GROUND

SHELBYVILLE, SHELBY COUNTY, KENTUCKY

DIRECTIONS: From the library on Washington Street (one way) go to the second light and turn right onto 53N (Fairgrounds should be across the street on the left). Go 1.35 miles and turn left onto Harrington Mill Road. Go west 2.35 miles. The cemetery is on the right within the right-of-way of the road.

The site is slightly elevated above the road bed and bounded by railroad ties. It contains a huge, old hickory tree (which is dying) and the stones of Thomas Mount and Mary, his wife. There is a wire fence immediately behind the tree and beyond the fence is posted. The backs of the stones face the road. The front sides of the stones were still fairly readable as of the date of our visit August 24, 1998.
