Mount Burial Ground

Summer 2006 visit to the Mount Burial Ground in Shelbyville, Shelby Co., KY to check on the graves of Thomas and Mary Clayton Mount.

We arrived to view the stones and I grabbed my pruner's to remove a sapling and some "woody" weeds. The next day when we returned it was obvious that someone had been digging in the area of the tree. The following day we found the landscape crew in the process of planting and bark mulching the area. We were thrilled to see the area spruced up! The tree has deteriorated since our last visit and we are not sure how long it can last. Our fear is possible destruction of the stones if the tree falls or has to be removed.
