Miss Ethel Mount, principal at 1st Ward School for 15 years will move up to the newly created post of Director of Elementary Education in the Noblesville's school system this fall.

Superintendent Dale V. Swanson yesterday announced Miss Mount's promotion and said that she will be succeeded at 1st Ward by Robert Morris, currently principal at Federal Hill School.

Robert B. Ashlock, fifth grade teacher at Conner School, will become principal at Federal Hill, which will place him in line for the principalship of the new school to be built there next year.

An office for Miss Mount will be set up in the old gymnasium building on Conner St. Swanson said that the Levinson Room probably will be remodeled for that purpose.

The new office was ordered created by the school board at a meeting last week to coordinate the educational program in the elementary grades and institute improvements in certain areas of instruction.

Swanson said that the Noblesville educational system is now large enough to need an elementary director.

"This has been one of my objectives for a long time", he said. "Many of the better schools employ an elementary supervisor and we feel we are among the best," he added.

Miss Mount said that while the details of her new position are still being worked out, she said one of her primary duties will be helping teachers in the five elementary buildings provide continuity of learning among each grade.

She also expects to devote attention to beginning teachers and teachers entering bhe Noblesville system for the first time.

Miss Mount has instructed at all three ward schools during her tenure here. She attended Valparaiso, Ball State and Indiana University and obtained both her bachelor and masters degrees in education at Indiana.
