Last Will and Testament of Mathias Ambrose (1820 - 1905)



In the name of God, Amen. I, Mathias Ambrose of D., of the village of Great Cacapon, Morgan County, West Virginia, being in a sound state of mind and memory, but calling to mind the frail tenure of life, do make and ordain this my last will and testament.

I hereby bequeath to my beloved wife, Mary A., in lieu of her dower, all my possessions both real and personal, after the payment of my funeral epenses and my just debts, for her support & maintenance during her natural life and I hereby direct, that my executor after the death of my wife Mary A., shall sell at public sale all of the property real or personal, that she leaves of my estate, and divide among my children and grand-children in manner as follows: Each of the following three heirs are to receive the sum of "Five Dollars" each viz# Belle Miller, formerly Belle Ambrose, one of my daughters, and Cecelia Tabler and Daniel Tabler both Grand-children and heirs at law of my son Daniel Ambrose dec'd.

The remainder is to be equally divided among the following three heirs Fannie McCrum, formerly Fannie Ambrose, my daughter, John W. Ambrose my son, and Clifton Ambrose, my grand-son, the son of my daughter Annie dec'd. I hereby appoint L. B. Kidwell executor of this my last will this 10th day of Jan. 1900.

Signed by the said Mathias Ambrose of D., as and for his last will and testament, in the presence of us, who at his request, in his presence and in the presence of each other, have subscribed our names as attesting witnesses this 10th day of January, 1900
