Berkeley County, Virginia Deed Book 17, pp 215, 216:
This Indenture made and ___ this the 25th day of September in the year of our
Lord One thousand Eight Hundred and one Between Edward Crabb and Rachel Crabb
his wife of Berkeley County and State of Virginia on the one part and Henry
Ambrouse of said County & State aforesaid of the other part Witnesseth, that
for and in Confirmation of the sum of Sixty pounds Current money of Virginia to
the said Edward Crabb and Rachel his wife in hand paid by the said Henry
Ambrouse at or before sealing and deliver of these presents. He the said
Edward Crabb and Rachel his wife the receipt whereof they do hereby acknowledge
and thereof doth release acquit and discharge the said Henry Ambrouse his Heirs
and assigns by these presents, He the said Edward Crabb and Rachel his wife
hath bargained sold granted aliened, ___ conveyed and made over unto the said
Henry Ambrouse his Heirs and assigns forever part of a Certain tract of parcel
of Land Situated, lying and being on the drains of Sleepy Creek, and bounded as
follows Beginning at a pine on the point of a Ridge on the East side of a Drain
and in a line of the original, then with said line So 1º W22-1/2 poles to
two white oaks on said side of drain then So 52 E 62 poles to a white oak in
Stephen Millers line then So 5º E 4 poles to between a Hicory and black
oak in the line corner to said original then with the original So 62º W
120 poles to a pine on a flat ridge in said line then leaving the line No 25 W
7 1/3 to a stone near a White oak then No 57º E 113 poles to the Beginning
Containing 50 acres together with all and singular the Buildings orchards,
water and watercourses, profits, commidities, hereditaments, and appurtenances,
whatsoever to the premises hereby granted, or in any part belonging or in any
wise appertaining and the Reversion and Reversions remainder or remainders,
rents ___ and profits thereof or thereto belonging and also all the Estate
right Title Interest, use, trust, property and Claim whatsoever of them the
said Edward Crabb and Rachel his wife of in and to the premises hereby granted
and all deeds ___ and writings touching on in any wise concerning the same To
Have and To Hold the said part or parcel of land and all and singular the
premises and every part or parcel thereof or thereto belonging with this and
every of the appurtenances unto the said Henry Ambrouse his heirs and assigns
forever to the only proper use and behoof of them the said Henry Ambrouse his
Heirs and assigns forever. And the said Edward Crabb and Rachel his wife for
themselves their Heirs Execu'rs adm'rs and assigns doth covenant promise grant
and agree to and with the said Henry Ambouse his Heirs and assigns by these
presents that the said Edward Crabb and Rachel his wife now at the time of
ensealing and Delivery of these presents is seized of in and to a good sure
perfect and absolute Estate of inheritance in fee simple of in and to the
premises hereby granted. and that they have good power, lawful and absolute
authority to grant and convey the same to the said Henry Ambrouse his Heirs and
assigns in manner and form aforesaid and that the premises now are and so
forever hereafter shall remain and be free and clear of and from all other and
former gifts, grants, bargains, sales, dower, Right and Title of Dower,
Judgements, Executions, Titles Troubles, Charges or incumbrances whatsoever
made done or Committed or Suffered to be done by the said Edward Crabb or
Rachel his wife and their Heirs and assigns against him the said Edward Crabb
Rachel his wife and all and every person and persons whatsoever shall and will
warrant and by these presents defend. In Witness whereof the party first above
named hath hereunto set their names and caused their seals to be affixed the
day & year above written --
