3.     Lewis Russell PARKER (Samuel) was born 1817/1818 in Ohio. He died 1876 in Alturas, Modoc Co., California.

Kim Jackson - 2003

I believe that our Lewis Parker in Noble Co, Ohio in 1850 is the same as the Lewis Parker in Siskiyou Co, California in 1860.  It appears that Lewis' first wife Phear died, and he went to California and remarried Mary.  His first child with Mary is Phear, and so appears to be named for Lewis' first wife.  Some of Lewis' children by wife Phear are living with other families or with relatives in Ohio in 1860.

My great-aunt Ethel Parker said that her grandfather Richard Henry had a brother Lewis who died in California.  I never knew where she got this information, as she seemed to be researching her Parker roots, just as my grandmother was.  I don't know if this was family lore, or if she had put this census data together.

The 1860 census gives us the middle initial R for Lewis.  The middle name of Russell comes from family information found on LDS website, Ancestry files.

Lewis married (1) Phear SANFORD, daughter of Robinson SANFORD and Jane UNKNOWN, about 1838 in Ohio. Phear was born about 1819 in Ohio or Lincoln Co., Maine. She died 1851 in prob. Monroe Co., Ohio.

Kim Jackson - 2003

I believe Phear, wife of Lewis Parker in 1850 census, is Phear Sanford  This is based on their oldest child being named Sanford; and per an ancestry.com file, Robinson Sanford had a child Phear Sanford who was of the right age to be Lewis' wife.

Note: the Rowlands family which two of Lewis' brothers married into, also had a child named for Robinson Sanford.

They had the following children:

              18    M         i.    Sanford R PARKER was born about 1839 in Ohio.

The article mentions that she was considered a local beauty. - kj]
