Dravosburg Military

Submitted by Dick Backus

This page is dedicated to all those men and woman who served their country,
but especially to those, like Private Sharp, who paid the ultimate price for our
freedom.
( The pictures of the Honor Roll and Private Sharp were donated by Bob Sharp.)
The Dravosburg Honor Roll  which was located at the intersection of Fourth Street,
McClure, and Sherman. On this were individually painted names of Dravosburgers who
served in World War Two. Later this was dismantled and replaced with a monument on
the American Legion grounds which was dedicated to the veterans of all wars.

Corporal William H. Backus and “Marty”, Troop “M”, 16th Cavalry, Camp San Benito,
Texas, during World War One, about 1918.  My Dad, and the only guy I ever saw make a
Kennywood horse gallop!

Christmas, 1918, menu from Camp San Benito. Looks like the troops ate pretty well !

These are not all of the people who served, only the  names painted on the honor roll at the time of the  photograph. There are also several  names which  are not readable in the photograph I have.
