A SHORT JOURNEY of the PALLISER FAMILY.

SOWERBY PC

It is several years now since I started researching my husbands Palliser family. With surety I am back to the marriage of John Palistor, weaver, on the 21 May 1794 at Sowerby Parish Church where he married Ann Nelson of the parish of Thirsk. A witness to the wedding was Edward Pallisser. (Note the different spellings in the marriage entry.) I estimate John could have been born ca 1769 but although I have researched the area around Sowerby extensively, I have been unable to find his baptism. The children of the above marriage baptised at Sowerby PC were:-

Elizabeth baptised  8 June 1795

George and Jane (twins born 19 December 1798).

Sessay Parish Church

It is possible that John at the head of my tree died around 1800 0r early 1801 but I have not found a burial for him. My evidence for his death is in the Sessay Parish Register.

On June 20th 1801, a John Pallister was baptised the son of Ann Pallister widow of Hutton. He was born on 17 June 1801. This could be Ann (Nelson) Palliser wife of John. There is a baptism of a John Pallister, illegitimate son of Elizabeth servant of Hutton, 16 June 1831, and a burial of a Jane Pallister, 21yrs, 28 April 1820. Elizabeth and Jane could have been the daughters of John and Ann. Sessay and Sowerby are close together.

Osmotherley Parish Church

George born and baptised at Sowerby Parish Church on 19 December 1798 married Elizabeth Christon at Osmotherly Parish Church on 25 November 1820. Children baptised at Osmotherley were :-

Ann baptised 18 November 1821

John and Elizabeth baptised 21. December 1824 (possibly twins as they were baptised on the same day.)

Jane baptised 6 December 1827.
