The History of Claiborne Parish
At least it soon became the fashion for the bride and groom to go to Arkansas to
get married. A certain pine log in Arkansas became known as the stopping
place, and which soon became famous for it had frequent visitors from far and
near. Up to this time (1821) no marriage license was required and it was
the fashion then for the bride and groom to go to Arkansas to get married; many
remember the old oak stump where ceremonies were solemnized by an Arkansas
Justice of the Peace.
