He married Mary Layman 1773 in Shenandoah County, Virginia (Source: rublerv@msn.com). She was born 1748 (Source: rublerv@msn.com).

Children of Henry Baughman and Mary Layman are:
+ 2 i. John2 Baughman, born December 1774 in Shenandoah County, Virginia; died January 1857 in Boone County, Arkansas.
3 ii. Barbara Baughman, born Abt. 1776.
4 iii. Polly Baughman, born Abt. 1778.
5 iv. Henry Baughman, born Abt. 1780.

Generation No. 2

2. John2 Baughman (Henry1) was born December 1774 in Shenandoah County, Virginia (Source: ancestry.com gedcom of rublerv@msn.com, noted 11 August 2000), and died January 1857 in Boone County, Arkansas (Source: rublerv@msn.com). He married Dorothea "Dorothy" Moyer 22 January 1805 in Botetourt County, Virginia (Source: rublerv@msn.com), daughter of Jacob Moyer and Salome Miller. She was born 24 August 1783 in Botetourt County, Virginia (Source: Birthdate given on tombstone (25 Dec. 1787) is most likely incorrect. See notes gathered by Tom Myers from the Old Pine Church in Shenandoah County, Va.), and died 14 September 1873 in Iron County, Missouri (Source: rublerv@msn.com.).

More About John Baughman: Burial: Old Milum or Liberty Cemetery, Boone County, Arkansas (Source: Tombstone, Old Milum or Liberty Cemetery, Silver Valley Community, Boone County, Arkansas, Sec. 1, Twp 18 N, R 20 W, Dec 1998--Compiled by LaVonna Wood: BAUGHMAN John(son of Henry & Mary)1774----1857.)

Notes for Dorothea "Dorothy" Moyer:
Baptismal records of Old Pine Church in Shenandoah County, Va. as transcribed by Tom Myers "Parents-Jacob Meyer & Salome, child-Dorathea, born-August 24, 1783, baptized-May 29, 1785, God parents-Christophel Lindemuth & w. Elisabeth"

"It seems from the above that Dorothy was born in Botetourt County on August 24, 1783 and was baptized here on May 29, 1785 by Rev. Paul Henkle. He visited Jacob Moyer here in 1785 according to his diary. The church records also state that Henkle entered names that were not baptized at Old Pine. This seems to be the case with Dorathea (Dorothy/Dolly) Moyer. Jacob Moyer was in Botetourt County at the time of Dorothy's birth as he purchased his land here on July 10, 1783. I don't think he left Salome in Shenandoah County by herself, even with family or friends. " - Tom Myers

Although I haven't seen the records myself, this argument seems compelling. - tkp

Notes for Henry Baughman:
Killing Three or More Deer at One Shot [Excerpts], By S. C. Turnbo
"Talking about killing three deer at one shot," remarked Gideon Baughman, who lived on Crooked Creek 7 miles below Harrison, Ark., "reminds me of a happening of that kind when there were but few settlers in this section. I remember the occurrence well and it occurred two miles above me on the creek. My brother, Henry Baughman, went out one morning soon after daylight to kill a deer, when he saw a doe standing with its broadside to him. Leveling his rifle at her he shot her down. on going up to where she lay he discovered another deer about 10 feet below the doe in a dying condition, but his astonishment was greater when he saw another deer lying kicking some 20 feet further down the hillside. The doe was shot dead and the position of the bullet wound showed that the doe was shot through the body. The next one was shot through the neck. The last one the ball had struck its head and barely buried itself in the deer's skull bone. Of course the three were standing on a line with the bullet when he shot, but he only saw the doe when he shot. Henry had a lively time carrying the three deer home and it done him good to boast about killing the three deer at one shot as long as he lived," said Mr. Baughman."

"The best shot I ever made at deer with an old flint lock muzzle loader," said Uncle Peter Baughman, "was one day while me and my father were hunting on Crooked Creek in Boone County, Ark. We had just separated when I noticed a doe and yearling deer standing double with broadsides to me. The animals were in a few feet of each other. When I aimed at them and pulled the trigger there was a flash and a report and the two deer fell. While I was approaching them I heard my father halloo "Here is your deer." I hallooed back "No, here they are," and it turned out that the ball from my rifle had passed through the doe and yearling deer and went on and struck another yearling deer and it ran 100 yards before it fell. Father seeing this one fall thought it was the one I had shot at. But I had not seen it..."

Shot Down in the Presense of His Daughter, By S. C. Turnbo

One of the horrible murders that was committed in Civil War times in what is now Boone County, Arkansas, is the following which was dictated for the use of the writer by Mr. Isaac Milum to W. L. Ridinger and Mr. Ridinger forwarded the same to me by letter at Protem, Taney County, Missouri, January 21, 1895. Mr. Milum said that in the year 1863 Jake Baughman who lived 6 miles northeast of Bellfonte was attacked one night by a robber and after he had broke the door down and entered the house he demanded a sum of money from Baughman. It was late in the night and Mr. Baughman had retired to bed. He and one of his daughters were living there alone. When the bandit got to the door and began pounding on the door shutter for admittance Mr. Baughman and his daughter leaped from their beds and snatched up an ax each that they kept In the house of nights and attempted to defend themselves when the mans partner in crime who had remained on the outside shot Mr. Baughman through the window. The ball taking effect near the right nipple from he died on the second day following the night he was shot. The murderers left the house at once.
