Edwin Taylor
|
Research by Martha Mewborn Marble and
Mrs. Robert Taylor
According to the Census Reports, Edwin was bc 1785 and was
probably the youngest son. He died by September 1876 when
his Will was probated in Lenoir County. His burial place is
not known but it was in the Woodington area where he lived.
There is no Bible Record that we are aware of at this time.
We are fortunate he lived to such a ripe old age and he had
a Will which survived. The Will proves his children and for
the girls, who they married.
According to the late Malcolm Grady, he married a Penelope
Smith of Wayne County but that is not proven. His wife was
Penelope and it is assumed she was the mother of his
children. On the 1870 Census there was a Nancy Taylor in his
household so it is assumed Penelope had died and he
remarried.
Almost nothing is known about Edwin but he appears to have
lived on Taylor family land.
According to his Will he had the following children:
Catherine Elva Taylor &endash; b 7 March 1818 and married
Thomas Evans Whaley. This family moved to Florida and the
line has been followed by several people.
John Taylor &endash; bc 1820 and died during the Civil War
&endash; married Mary E. Bryant daughter of Blake Duwain and
Hannah Holland Bryan who moved from Greene to Lenoir County
by the 1840 Census. Blake was the son of Joel Bryant of
Greene County but he may not have been married to Blake's
mother, an unknown Rentfroe. John was deceased when his
father made his Will, so Edwin left John's share to his
children. I descend from their daughter Rebecca who married
Thomas Henry Hardison, Jr. There are no Bible Records for
this line, but the marriage of John and Mary is proven by
Death Records of some of their children.
Edwin Taylor, Jr &endash; b 29 August 1821 and died 15
December 1892. He married Martha Holland. The line has been
followed with a fair amount of documentation.
James Taylor &endash; bc 1825 &endash; died by 1882
according to some accounts. Married Eliza, surname unknown
but his widow was Martha A.. There is less information on
James in the Taylor Booklet than on the other lines. Some of
his children may have left Lenoir Co as there may have been
a James Wendall in Wayne County bc 1850. He had two proven
children, Wendall, and Susan Pearcy
Suphronia E. Taylor &endash; b 9 June 1831 &endash; d 23
July 1914 married Ira Smith &endash; no issue
Mrs. Taylor also listed a Rebecca Taylor but no daughter by
that name was listed in the Will of Edwin Taylor. She may
have been the sister of Martha Holland, wife of Edwin Jr as
she is listed in the Will of Charles Holland. She married
Thomas Haynes.
