Robert HART  and Hannah Hollidays

        Robert Hart was born in 1756.  He died 7 Apr 1811 in Greene Co., NC, and was buried in the Robert Hart Graveyard,  Greene Co., NC.  Tombstone reading: In Memory of Robert who departed this life 7 April., 1811 in the 55th year of his age.  Greene County, NC Cemetary  Inscriptions  by Kilpatrick.

Hannah was born in 1765,  the daughter of Samuel Holliday.  She died 17 Oct 1833 and was also buried in the Robert Hart Graveyard.  Her tombstone reads: 3In Memory of Hannah Hart Relict of Robert Hart who departed this life 17th day of October A. D. 1883 in her 68th year of age.2  (Greene County, NC Cemetary Inscriptions  by Kilpatrick.  The 1883 was corrected to 1833).

 

   The Robert Hart Graveyard is located on rural road 1335 between Lizzie & Willow Green between Patricks Chapel and the old Patrick home place on opposite side of the road.

 

I believe that Robert was possibly a son of old Moses Hart. A study of the land deeds indicates a close relationship. Moses was the grandson of Robert Hart, thus the name, Robert. Robert married the daughter of Samuel Holiday, who lived in the same vicinity as Moses Hart at the time of their marriage.

 

Robert's daughter married the son of Titus Carr who also lived in the same vicinity. Prior to coming to North Carolina, Titus Carr and Moses Hart were neighbors in Nansemond Co., Virginia. (The Vestry Book of the Upper Parish - Nansemond County, by Wilmer L. Hall, Ed.)

 

Most of the information for Robert's and Hannah's family came from the collection of Dora Pearce, which in turn came from the notes of Dora's Aunt Hannah Garrard Dotson.

 

Other information on the descendants of Robert and Hannah Hart was found in a letter written by Daniel W. Patrick in 1907, and so generously shared by Dora. Mr. Patrick was a grandson of Sarah and Robert Carr. The letter was written to Hannah Holliday Hart Garrard. Daniel was the son of Susan Carr and husband Edward Patrick.  A transcription of his letter is stored in the Greene, NC, USGenWeb archives.

One of his grants was described as being adjacent to Wm. Reddick, a near neighbor of Moses Hart:

40 acres deeded from Wm. REDDICK to ROBT. CARR adj. a patent to TITUS CARR  now ROBT. CARR, THOS. DAIL now JORDAN WHITLEY, ROBT. HARTs patent now MATHEW H. CARR.

#30   Moses     Hart   This would be Moses, Jr., who came on down to Alabama, my ancestor. Were they standing in line together: Were he and Robert Hart brothers?  Moses, Jr.  also named a son Robert.

(From Jonathan Butchers Report: Robert had 13 slaves in 1800. This led me to suspect that his widow was the Hannah Hart listed in 1816 with 1822 acres and 8 slaves. This identification is confirmed by a re-recorded deed in Greene Co, dated 2  Nov 1820, in which Hannah Hart, admrx. of Robert Hart Sr, sold 25 acres to Robert Carr, joining a line made between Robert Hart Sr and said Carr (Book 16:298, witnessed by J Holliday Hart).  

 

Who is this following Robert? Could he be another son or grandson of Robert and Hannah?  Rogers, Coward and Holiday were names the family married into.

From TN-Tipton County Court Minutes, Book A, p. 308, 332; Book B, p. 280, 395, 435:  Robert W. Hart died before 07-JUN-1830 when John BOLTON was appointed administrator with Enos ROGERS, Frances MARSHALL and David C. BROWN as security.  On 06-SEP-1830 Eliza HART, widow of Robert W. HART, petitioned for a years provision and dower.  She also asked that the negroes be divided between her and her two children.  On 04-SEP-1832 Eliza J. HART was appointed guardian of her two children, Charles Willis HART and Mary W. HART.  On 04-JUN-1833 Robert SIMINGTON, William SIMINGTON, and John SMITH were appointed to settle with Eliza COWARD, formerly Eliza HART, as guardian of the minor heirs of Robert HART deceased.  On 02-SEP-1833 William COWARD was appointed guardian with Samuel HOLLIDAY, Bryant HOLLIWAY (sic), & Daniel A.
