FREDERICK ALLEN PACKER

( 1891 - 1967 )

Frederick Allen PACKER is at the head of this line. He was born in 1891, the only surviving child of Charles PACKER and Emma Kesiah OLIVER. While single he enjoyed many outings with his Buckby friends, cycling and camping - we've the photos to prove it!

Do you recognise any of the other young men in the photograph? Do let me know I'd love to be able to name them all.

Frederick was a time-served Shoemaker like his father but also taught in the local school and later became a small-scale market gardener. You, your parents or grandparents might remember buying apples, eggs, soft fruits or even chickens from his home at the end of Harbidges Lane (now demolished). He won may prizes for his flowers and vegetables at local shows.

He married Margaret Annie EAGLESTONE from West Haddon. Known as Maggie, she out-lived her husband, dying in her 99th year in 1991.

I've lots of information on the PACKERs from Long Buckby from 1790's onwards. Do contact me if you have an interest or can provide additional information on the Packer family or life in Long Buckby at the time.
