Marry Christmas & happy new year to all Pace Connected Family Members! This is the 2nd issue of our Family Newsletter and I do hope you will find things to your liking. There were a couple of errors in the first issue and the corrections are on the front page of this issue. The editor in chief[ me] certainly requests that no one will be compelled into a rage over such things. However, until I know for sure, though, Perhaps, I should consider myself a candidate for the "Witness Protection Program" ! You might notice the new title for my little article-" Paces Paines". This title comes from the Plantation name of Richard & Isbella Pace after they were two hundred acres of land when they came to the Jamestown area between 1610-1618. The word "Paines" does not refer to ailments of anykind but rather it is an archaic word that was used for "Fields". So, thus, "Paces Field". I like Paces Paines, though. There is a wonderful story that is told about Richard & Isbella as they worked their plantation across the river from the Jamestown settlement. It seems that the Indians were planning a raid against the settlement because of the hatred that existed from the White Man taking over Indian land. A young Indian youth named Chanco who lived with Richard, informed him of the raid and Richard paddled across the river to warn the settlement of the attack. This saved the lives of many people from certain death and/or slavery. We are directly related to Richard & Isabella. Just thought you would like to know. Merry Christmas & Happy New year! John |
