Generation No. 1
1. WILLIAM7 PACE, SR. (GEORGE6, JOHN5, RICHARD4, GEORGE3, RICHARD2, RICHARD1) was born Abt. 1747 in Halifax Co, NC, and died 1845 in Montgomery Co., TN. He married SISLEY WALKER Abt. 1771 in North Carolina, daughter of WILLIAM WALKER.
Notes for WILLIAM PACE, SR.:
William, age 90-100, is with son Hardy's family on 1840 Montgomery Co census.
The 1820 census index, pg 16 shows William Pace, Robertson Co., household had only one male over 45 and one female over 45. Apparently moved from North Carolina between abt 1789-90. William's will is dated 1829. Per Reed S. Pace, William was definitely born in North Carolina, about 1757.
R. Banning shows possible birthplace as Virginia and birth date as 1746. Will proven in Montgomery Co, 1845.
William was between 80 and 90 in the 1830 Robertson Co census, which confines his birth date to 1740 to 1750. Wife was not alive. Others in the household: 1 m 20-30, 1 f 30-40, 2 f 5-10, 1 f 10-15, plus 6 slaves.
Terry Pace shows the middle name of William Jr. and his father to be Richard. He said he saw William Sr. referred to as William Richard in some writings. Since the son is referred to as Jr., he should have the same middle name. He also thinks John's middle name is Richard . Have seen no evidence for this.
Terry Pace shows place of birth as Brandon Parish, Prince George Co, VA, but date ca 1756.
A Pace Society survey of all North Carolina county censuses of 1790 did not show this William.
Pace Society claimed he lived on Beaverdam Swamp near Cains Mill Swamp, owned by James Cain I, father of Ann Cain. No evidence has been found that he married Ann Cain or that any of his descendants had the middle name of Cain.
Birthdate of 1746-48 is probably correct - see Pace Soc Bulletins Vol I Pgs 322-327.
The Wm Pace of TN bought his land there in 1803 (per Shirley Graham) and probably arrived shortly before. Henning came there earlier than his father, abt. 1800.
Reed Pace in History of Benton Co said William was born in NC, as well as Henning .
William sold 101 acres "on the North of Tar River on the Great Branch" in Franklin Co, NC on 9/16/1794 to David Jarnegan (B. Howard pg 329). Sold 444 acres (adjacent location) to Henry G. Williams on 9/6/1802. See B. Howard, pg 119-120.
Notes for SISLEY WALKER:
Bruce Howard has a completely different birth order for the children: Henning, Martha, Patience, William, Jr., Alsa (Alsey), Sarah, John, Hardy C., Dempsey, Gideon, Mary and Cally. Year of death is assuming she was the mother of all the children.
Children of WILLIAM PACE and SISLEY WALKER are:
i. SARAH8 PACE, b. 1772, Halifax Co, NC; d. Aft. 1850, see note; m. JOHN DAVIS, January 27, 1803, Davidson Co, TN.
Notes for SARAH PACE:
It has been noted that one of Alsey Pace's sisters lived past 1850 and showed her place of birth as NC in the 1850 census. This would have to be Sarah. (Also Hardy C. Pace, Sr) Sarah is called Sally in Sistler - Early Middle TN Marriages.
Sarah was 78 in 1850 Robertson Co, TN census, born NC.
2. ii. GIDEON G. PACE, b. 1775, Halifax Co, NC; d. February 28, 1825, Haywood Co, TN.

Notes for MARTHA PATSY PACE:
Terry Pace shows 1782. Another source shows 1769. Unknown source shows died bef 11/1829.
Bruce says she was the second child. If true b. abt 1773. Bruce says she married David Jarnagan in Franklin Co on 2/8/1789 (pg 120). David Jarnagan had purchased some of William's land.
vii. DEMPSEY PACE, b. 1783, NC; d. Aft. 1830, prob. Haywood Co, TN; m. MARY, prob. Robertson Co, TN.
Notes for DEMPSEY PACE:
1820 Robertson Co. census shows Demsey and wife (26-44), with 4 boys under 10 and 1 girl under 10. Name appears to be Demsey. Terry Pace shows dob as 1793. Another source shows 1783. Dempsey also fought in the War of 1812 (per Clint Pace).
Per Clint Pace, Pace Fam Gen Forum 1/28/1998: Dempsey Pace, Sr is listed in the 1830 West TN census in Haywood County as the head of a household of 11 people. On the same census is a Dempsey in same age bracket (40-50) with family of 10. This implies 1793 birth date is wrong.
I have used 1783, which means born in NC. 1830 Haywood Co census shows two Dempsey Paces: 1 m under 5, 2 m 5-10, 1 m 10-15, 2 m 15-20, 1 m 40-50, 1 f under 5, 1 f 10-15, 1 f 40-50; 2nd is 2 m 5-10, 1 m 10-15, 3 m 15-20, 1 m 40-50, 1 f under 5, 1 f 15-20, 1 f 20-30, 1 f 40-50.
In 1820 census is living next to John Baldwin and Dempsey's brother William.
A Mary Pace is on 1850 Haywood Co census, age 53, son George 14, NC, T.
Notes for MARY:
Or Sarah (Pace Society) Is 40-50 on Haywood Co, TN census (Two Dempsey Pace families on this census with parents in the same age brackets!) One family has 9 children, the other has 8.
6. viii. JOHN R. PACE, b. 1785, Franklin Co, NC; d. December 1859, Montgomery Co, TN.
7. ix. JOEL PACE, b. 1786, Franklin Co, NC; d. 1840, Haywood Co, TN.

xi. PATIENCE PACE, b. 1791, TN; m. ? WILLIAMS.
Notes for PATIENCE PACE:
R. Banning shows possible dob of 1791 in Tennessee. Same for Terry Pace. Another source showed 1768.
9. xii. CALLY PACE, b. 1795, TN.
10. xiii. MARY PACE, b. 1797, TN.
Generation No. 2
2. GIDEON G.8 PACE (WILLIAM7, GEORGE6, JOHN5, RICHARD4, GEORGE3, RICHARD2, RICHARD1) was born 1775 in Halifax Co, NC, and died February 28, 1825 in Haywood Co, TN. He married MARTHA HUNT.
Notes for GIDEON G. PACE:
Middle initial is from Terry Pace who shows 1784 birth date. Another source shows 1775.
Per Shirley Graham: Names listed on June 24, 1830 Texas Land Records for Gideon are probably his heirs : Town of Austin to Mr. S. F. Austin Impresario, James Robert Pace, William Carroll Pace minors over 14 years of age and Albert Gallation, Wesley Walker, Polly Jones, Dempsey Council, Mary Ann Elizabeth and Gideon P. Pace, minors under 14 years of the late Gideon Pace, request to be admitted... James R. Pace for himself and brothers and sisters....

Notes for WILLIAM CARROL PACE:
Shirley shows following land grant record: William Pace, dec'd arrived in TX 1830, 1/3 league, Colorado Co, William B. Dewees, guardian of heirs. Year of death is from Beulah Theriot.
Born 1810-1816.
iii. ALBERT GALLATION PACE, b. Abt. 1820, TN; d. Abt. 1845, Colorado Co, TX.
Notes for ALBERT GALLATION PACE:
Details of this family are from 1880 census, Tishomingo Co, MS (Pace Soc Bulletins Vol 1, pg 383) which shows A. G. Pace, age 52 born TN, parents born NC -this is tentative. In the same house is Sallie A. Adams, age 12, niece, b MS, father born TN, mother born AL.
An Albert arrived in TX in 1834 per Land Grants, Matagorda, TX.
The above family was deleted as probably incorrect. Beulah Theriot says Albert died in Colorado Co, TX about 1845.

Notes for HENNING PACE:
Original info was from Margery Bernards. Additional from Paulette Haynes. 1776 birth date and location is from Bennett Dickson. Per Reed S. Pace: Henning moved to Benton Co, AR in the early 1800's. Henning had at least 7 children. It is assumed that most of the children are from Martha Bradshaw.
Terry Pace shows 1776 birth date. Reed S. Pace in Historyof Benton Co, AR says his gg grandfather (Henning) had seven children. Mildred Riggs says he had a son named Frank or Franklin.
Notes for MARTHA BRADSHAW:
Marital relation to Henning Pace is from Paulette Haynes. Age 50-60 on 1830 Haywood Co, TN census. Birthplace for Martha is from 1880 census record of McLennan Co, TX for Gideon G. Pace.

Notes for ALSEY PACE:
Alsey died in the War of 1812 per Terry Pace. According to Dina Werho, his sons were raised by Zenos Fox after Alsey's death. There appears to be a different Alsey Pace in Benton County, AR in the 1840's. According to Terry Pace Alsey's father did not move to Tennessee until after 1789 and before 1803. Zenos was a neighbor of Alsey's judging from the census.

Possibly on 1840 Robertson Co, age 40-50 1 son 15-20, 2 dau <10, 2 dau 10-20, wife deceased.
Notes for SARAH HUNT:

Notes for JOEL PACE:
Terry Pace shows dob as 1786. Another source shows 1770. I am using the 1786 dob because Terry has a record that Sarah (Sally) was their first born child. A will for a Joel Pace was recorded in Haywood Co, TN in 1840.
Birthplace is from Pace Society book, and is not certain. Per Shirley Graham, George was their only child. This may be incorrect per 1830 Haywood Co census: 2 m under 5, 1 m 10-15, 1 m 15-20, 2 m 20-30, 1 m 40-50, 1 f 5-10, 2 f 15-20, 1 f 30-40.

Notes for WILLIAM PACE:
Per Reed S. Pace: My great-great grandfather and his wife moved to Arkansas in the early 1800's. They had 10 children and moved to Texas before the 1860 Hill County census. William's four sons all fought for the Confederacy in Parson's Cavalry, Co. A. (per Clint Pace). Per Reed Pace - William was born in Spring of 1801.
The William R. Pace who is listed here as his son is apparently not the William R. Pace who was on the 1870 Benton Co, AR census. That William R. is a son of William Pace and Sarah Frazier and is the father of General L. Pace. The origin of that line is unknown.
On the other hand the Wm on the 1870 Benton Co is also on 1880 showing parents born in TN. The William whose parents were Wm and Sarah Frazier would have parents born in SC and NC or MS.
Notes for NANCY:
1850 Texas census (Hill Co?) show her name as Nancy, age 41, born TN. Reed Pace said name may be Mary. "Bef 1889" per Reed Pace.

Letter from Marjory Pace Bernards to Emily Teel: [William Teel] lived in Oklahoma, when he and Aunt Carrie [Carolyn Boyd Pace] were married. She stayed with him only a few months and returned to her family. Her mother [Loretta A. Hayden] and Aunt Eva [Eva Virginia Pace] lived with Uncle Allie (Alfred) [James Alfred Pace] on the home place. She stayed until after the baby (Paul Teel) was born. Then my dad [Edward Arthur Pace] paid for her to school to be a teacher. Aunt Eva, her sister, took care of Paul. Then Caroline became a teacher and taught several years. She met Frank [Carden] there... They use to go visit my parents (Arthur and Rachel in Decal), until they finally married in Joplin, MO. When the war was over Paul went to Portland and boarded with one of his cousins (and husband). Her name was Gladis(?) [Gladys Pace] and I can't remember her last name....Aunt Carry and Uncle Frank moved to California too [besides Paul]. Emily [?] grew up and she and I were really close. I am quite a bit older than Emily (84) and can't get around too much. I miss Paul because he was part of my life for so many years.
She was known as Carrie and lived in Decatur, AR with Frank. (Gravette News-Herald).

Their youngest son, Oliver, married Nancy Haynes, and settled in Bedford Co., Tennessee. Nancy had received a good education and studied to be a doctor. During the early pioneer days her services were much in demand."
from WOODS FAMILY, Lawrence County History, published by the LCHS, 1974, written by Haddie Woods Smith.
"The Woods family came to America about the middle of the eighteenth century and located in North Carolina. John Woods, the great-grandfather of our subject (John H. Woods) left North Carolina a few years after landing in America, and located at Fort Nashville, TN, where he reared his family, and took an active interest in the early settlement of Tennessee, and in the Indian wars. His sons, Oliver... and William took active parts in the War of 1812, William especially distinguishing himself at the battle of New Orleans. After the war they returned to Tennessee and engaged in the occupation of farming. Oliver was born in the fort near Nashville, and was married in 1804, settling in Bedford County on a farm. He was well educated and taught school in both Tennessee and Missouri. He was a fine musician, and also taught vocal music. In 1838 he moved to Benton County, AR, and in 1844 came to Lawrence County, Mo. He was one of the fourteen men who cast their vote for Abraham Lincoln in 1860, and was compelled to leave the county. He went to Iowa and died at his daughter's, Eliza Andrews, home in 1863. His wife, whose maiden name was Nancy Haynes, was of Scotch parentage, her people being early residents of North Carolina. She was born near Nashville, TN about 1787 and died in Lawrence Co. in 1861." from History of Lawrence Count, MO, Goodspeed Publishing Co.
