The United Kingdom consists of England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland (Ulster). The name Pace is English and so far, no Paces in the UK outside England are known to the Pace Network. However, this page is set up for all of the United Kingdom, just in case.
For geographically challenged Americans -- confused about the meanings of Britain, England, United Kingdom, British Isles, etc? Click here for an explanation.

Hi folk,
I've just started researching my family tree here in England. I've only been at it about a month, but have got back to 1835 and ENOCH PACE's marriage to HANNAH WOOTTON in Ettingshale near Wolverhampton, Staffordshire (now West Midlands). His father was a THOMAS PACE but I have little information on him yet, except that I believe he was born in Langly Green, Staffordshire.
ENOCH and HANNAH's children all became locksmiths and key smiths until my father broke the tradition.
I had never heard of American or Austrialian Pace's until surfing your site but it would be great to see if any of my PACE's emigrated one way or another!
The Malta connection may be true as when on holiday there it was apparently as common as Smith is here. Also they pronounced PACE not P..ACE but PAR..CHAY (phonetic spelling). Its the Italian/Maltese pronunciation.
If anyone is interested as I gather more information on the PACE's I will let you know.

The following is a query from Utah, with 19th century ancestors from Durham. It may be of interest to UK researchers:

I found your page on the internet and hope that you could place my information on there as well. I did not see anything that matched mine. I have all of the children from the last generation I listed. Maybe someone else will spot it and contact me...(My husband's mother is Susan Pace listed in the last generation!)
Thanks, Kristen Mazy Fullmer PO Box 685 Ely, NV 89301

NOTE: Jan lives in England (the .uk at the end of her e-mail address = United Kingdom.)
FATHER - John Edward Pace b. 1926 in Pelsall, Staffordshire, England, he was the son of Edward Pace b. Pelsall 1874 d.1960 and Florence May Dilk b. Pelsall 1900 d. 1968. Edward Pace was the son of Elijah Pace of Hobble End near Cannock in Staffordshire, he was born in 1850 and died in 1912, and Emily Pace b. 1852 d. 1880, Elijah Pace had 6 children altogether from his first marriage then he married a woman with 4 children and they went on to have 4 more, so as you can see it will be no easy task to trace them. One of my Fathers cousins was called Charles Pace and he emigrated to Ottawa c. 1930 and married the daughter of either a jeweller or a goldsmith.
Sorry this isn't much just birth certificates I have and family history that has been passed on I will send you more as I get it Thanks -- Jan
[Webmaster: Jan shared some personal information in a later email. I like for us to get to know each other, and besides, it's educational. Here it is:]
I live in Northampton now right in the middle of England, I was born and brought up in Staffordshire, virtually where my ancestors have lived for generations. My Mother is Welsh though so I have relatives all over, my parents and 2 of my sisters still live in Staffs. My son goes to a private school here, we have Public Schools as well but they are usually very old expensive private schools. [NOTE: this is a response to my comment that I had heard the terms "public school" and "private school" had opposite meanings in England and here. I taught in a public school in the U.S. -Webmaster.]
Our records certainly back to the mid 19th century are excellent, before then it was not necessary to register births and deaths so it is a bit hit and miss. -Jan

Dear Jan,
I've just scanned over the PaceNetWrk UK Queries page and can hardly believe my eyes!!
I believe your father's cousin, CHARLES PACE, who you mention emigrated to OTTAWA c.1930 and married the daughter of a jeweller, is very likely my uncle Charlie, my father's brother..
My father was THOMAS HENRY PACE, 1914 - 1964 born Abram, Lancashire
His father was CHARLES VICARAGE PACE 1871 - 1926 who married ANNIE ARCH
1868 - 1964
Their origins were in Staffordshire, I know, and are related to Squires of Wednesfield, near Wolverhamton, and New Invention. My aunts have visited there. Two aunts survive, in their 90's yet. Two of four SQUIRE brothers, married two PACE sisters:
James Lane Squire 1848-1920 married Emily Pace 1849-1915 (8 children)
Norwood, Ont.
Henry T. Squire 1850-1937 married Mary Ann Pace 1856-1941 (no children)
Norwood, Ont.
Joshua Pace, 1864-1917 is also burried in Norwood cemetary.
Frederick Pace of Stand Off, Alberta...b.? - d. Dec 1898
Henry Pace of Lethbridge, Alberta....b. ? - d.March 1899
I've been trying to learn the relationship of Joshua to Henry & Frederick Pace because my grandfather died out there in Lethbridge too. Joshua, from the Bronderbund records, may be the JW Pace who farmed at Nanton, Alberta, not far north of Lethbridge. Joshua is burried with Emily, Mary Ann, etc.
I've been trying to their relationship to my grandfather. My grandfather's sister, another Mary Ann, I'm told married a Haynes and a large family of them resides at London, Ontario.
Your grandfather, EDWARD PACE born 1874, Pelsall, Staffordshire, must be my grandfather's brother.
If any of this "rings a bell" we can go on
NOTE: They did go on, and I have consolidated these queries on a special page for the Straffordshire-Ontario connection. Click here. -Webmaster
