I am desperately searching for a link from my PACE line to help me get out of Georgia. The follow is what I have found so far.

PACE, Samuel b. abt 1750 possibly in NC married to GORDON, Ann Son PACE, Trion/Tryon b. Abt 1775 d.B Abt. 1849 married to DYKES, Mary Their Children: JAMES b. Jan. 27, 1802, NOAH b. April 25, 1803, UNITY b.Feb. 5, 1805, MARY ANN b. March 9,1807, GEORGE C. b. Feb. 3, 1809, GEORGE is the only one that I know for sure was born in Effingham Co. GA.

I have from there all the way to my grandchildren and me. My problem is that Trion reported on a census that he was born in North Carolina, and I can not with any documentation connect him and his father SAMUEL (gotten from a relative). I have not been able to get from Trion in Effingham Co. Springfield, GA to North Carolina. If any one can help me out I would be most grateful. If anything I have mentioned here sounds like something someone can use I will be most willing to share what I have. Thank You. I am sort of new to this and I find the Pace Web site a great encouragement to keep looking.

From: Jayb130000@aol.com (Jay Boone)

I would appreciate any help on my PACE line. My gg-grandmother was ELIZA MARIE PACE born 20-Apr-1854, she was the daughter of JOHN PACE (b. abt. 1825) and ANNA JACKSON PACE. ELIZA married EZRA BOSTON in 1872. JOHN and ANNA PACE had 4 children that I know of, ELIZABETH, JOHN, ELIZA, and LUCINDA. I know that ELIZABETH married DENNISON BOSTON (brother of EZRA), but have not been able to find any information on the other two children. According to the 1860 and 1870 census records JOHN was born in New Jersey, and ANN and the children were all born in Pa. I have tried to connect this family to the PACEs of Wyoming And Luzerne Counties but have had no luck as yet. Does anyone have information on who JOHN's parents are or any ideas on where to look for more information. Any help greatly appreciated.

In reply to your inquiry of 97-7-7 on the PaceNetWkrk, if it's any help, or for interest:-

MARY ANN PACE, my grandfather's sister...(CHARLES VICARAGE PACE - 1871 - 1926) married into the HAYNES family,........now a large family in LONDON, Ontario, Canada.

The origin was County of STAFFORDSHIRE, England. where they got married before emmigration There is a HAYNES in the town of STAFFORD with an internet address:... kbowers@interlog.com

From a search...England, genealogy or England, family tree....I got:- www.Staffordshire.gov.uk....and eventually...Staffordshire Look/up Exchange page...listed are several people who volenteer to look up records. I was in Stafford in '94; it's great, a genealogist's haven. . I have two booklets from the Staffordshire County Council, libraries, arts & archives Department on procedure and where certain records can be found, etc. I'm trying to research Pace - Squire - Haynes - Elliott - Emery, lots of fun. They all had their origins in Staffordshire & Yorkshire, England, if you know anything of a clue, I'd be glad to hear. Emerys married Pace and went to Toledo, Ohio. I haven't looked there yet.

I can imagine the fun you've had in 23 years. Nice talking to you!

From: CHRISHAYNE@aol.com (Paulette Haynes)

I have been working on the HAYNES genealogy for 23 years. In this genealogy we have NANCY HAYNES born 5 Mar 1784 married OLIVER WOODS, 1 Dec 1807 Williamson County, TN. Nancy and Oliver were settlers near Mt. Vernon in Lawrence County, MO. Three of their children married PACE persons and I would like to locate and add their descendants to Haynes genealogy.

1. SAMUEL WOODS born 7 Nov 1808 married SICELY WALKER PACE ca 1828. Lived in Lawrence County, MO.

2. JOHN BLACKBURN WOODS born 10 Feb 1811 married MARTHA H. PACE. Lived in Lawrence County, MO.

3. MARTHA MARIAH WOODS born 24 Feb 1815 married CHRISTOPHER STUMP PACE. Lived in either Lawrence County, MO or Benton County, AR.

JAN.ANDERSON@nene.ac.uk

Dear Jan,

I've just scanned over the PaceNetWrk UK Queries page and can hardly believe my eyes!!

I believe your father's cousin, CHARLES PACE, who you mention emigrated to OTTAWA c.1930 and married the daughter of a jeweller, is very likely my uncle Charlie, my father's brother..

My father was THOMAS HENRY PACE, 1914 - 1964 born Abram, Lancashire

His father was CHARLES VICARAGE PACE 1871 - 1926 who married ANNIE ARCH

1868 - 1964

Their origins were in Staffordshire, I know, and are related to Squires of Wednesfield, near Wolverhamton, and New Invention. My aunts have visited there. Two aunts survive, in their 90's yet. Two of four SQUIRE brothers, married two PACE sisters:

James Lane Squire 1848-1920 married Emily Pace 1849-1915 (8 children)

Norwood, Ont.

Henry T. Squire 1850-1937 married Mary Ann Pace 1856-1941 (no children)

Norwood, Ont.

Joshua Pace, 1864-1917 is also burried in Norwood cemetary.

Frederick Pace of Stand Off, Alberta...b.? - d. Dec 1898

Henry Pace of Lethbridge, Alberta....b. ? - d.March 1899

I've been trying to learn the relationship of Joshua to Henry & Frederick Pace because my grandfather died out there in Lethbridge too. Joshua, from the Bronderbund records, may be the JW Pace who farmed at Nanton, Alberta, not far north of Lethbridge. Joshua is burried with Emily, Mary Ann, etc.

I've been trying to their relationship to my grandfather. My grandfather's sister, another Mary Ann, I'm told married a Haynes and a large family of them resides at London, Ontario.

Your grandfather, EDWARD PACE born 1874, Pelsall, Staffordshire, must be my grandfather's brother.

If any of this "rings a bell" we can go on.

From: gordpace@eagle.ca (Gord Pace)

Hello Roy,

I'm trying to link up a few names with my grandfather, CHARLES VICARAGE PACE who married ANNIE ARCH.... They originated in STAFFORDSHIRE, ENGLAND before coming to CANADA ~1920. The family emmigration plan was to settle in the USA where other related Paces had already gone.

Charles went ahead of the family and worked in Alberta, but died in Lethbridge, before his family arrived in MONTREAL. His family resided in Montreal, Quebec & Ontario for ~55 years, then Victoria, BC

THE MYSTRY is:- where the other Paces, or relatives went in the USA?....That info got lost when Charles died......An INTERESTING FACT is:- that Charles Pace and Family lived at 220 Warrington Road in Abram, Lancashire, prior to emmigration......PENSACOLA, Florida has a PACE Boulevard and a New WARRINGTON Road...believe it or not!... but info sent from the Pen.Hist.Society suggest coincidence..

SOME NAMES I'm trying to link with
PACE, CHARLES VICARAGE, 1871 - 1926
PACE, FREDERICK of Stand Off, Alberta died Dec. 1898
PACE, HENRY.............Lethbridge, Alberta died Mar. 1899
PACE, JOSHUA...........Norwood, Ontario .1864 - 1917
SQUIRE, EMILY (PACE) Norwood Ontario 1849 - 1915
SQUIRE, MARY ANN (PACE) Norwood, Ontario 1856 - 1941
PACE, EDWARD "Teddy" Havelock, Ontario, died 1958

Emerys of Toledo, Ohio are related, and Haycock, Monk of Massachusetts, Squire of Virginia

I have the Broderbund Family Tree III and joined the Pace Society recently and got on the internet today, I'm bound to get somewhere with this, now.

Any info would be appreciated, Gordon Thomas Pace gordpace@eagle.ca

I can only go back to my grandfather LUBY WILBUR PACE born around 1900 in Graves County, Kentucky. I believe we have deep roots there. He had two brothers named THOMAS PACE and RUBLE PACE. I am the only son of my father CHESTER PACE born June 1930. During my search around the net I have crossed very few references to PACE's in Kentucky and virtually none for Western Kentucky. Anyone?

Subj: PACE-TAYLOR of Knox Co., KY and PACE-PENNINGTON-BARGER? of Clay and Leslie Cos., KY. Date: 97-11-18 15:13:50 EST From: pk@teleport.com

Seeking information on Martha PACE, b. 1837, and Ephraim A. PENNINGTON, b. 1812, NC; mar. Mar 17, 1866, Clay Co., KY. Who were Martha's parents/siblings? I'm trying to place a John PACE who was listed in their household in the 1870 Leslie Co., KY, Census.

From "Pioneer Families of Leslie County," by Sadie Stidham, pps.417-418, there is the following family:

I* Robert PACE, m. Martha Walker, b. 1784

II 1. Charles PACE, m. Hannah Lewis

2. John R. PACE, b. 1818, m. Lavina FARMER, b. 1823

* 3. William PACE, b. 1837, m. Martha Estridge, b. 1839

III * 1. John PACE. b. 1856, m. Mary X (BARGER?)

m. 21 Nov 1876, Clay Co., KY

Does anyone have information regarding this John, b. 1856, and Mary?

Is this the same John who was living with Ephraim and Martha PENNINGTON, and the same John PACE who m. Mary BARGER?

In the 1880 Leslie Co. Census, John PACE (23) and Mary (25) had a son William (1) What happened to this family and son, William?? I've been unable to track their whereabouts after this census. It is reasonable to believe that Martha PACE-PENNINGTON and John PACE are closely related, probably her nephew. --Peggy pk@teleport.com

Just a note. The viewers may be confused with my query: it is titled PACE-TAYLOR of Knox Co., KY, when the query that follows is about PACE-PENNINGTON-BARGER? of Clay and Leslie Cos., KY. The PACE-TAYLOR Knox Co. query could be added below the Pace-Pennington query as it's possible they are related families - - I just don't know yet.

PACE-TAYLOR in 1880 Knox Co., KY, Census: Martha E. PACE, F, ae 18, Knox Co. (Head of Family), other members: Wm. PACE, 5/12 yr, b. KY, living with an Alexander TAYLOR.

Does anyone have information on Martha, Alexander or William? Who is the father of William Pace? And how are Martha, Alexander Taylor and William connected? Thanks for your help.

My Mother was a PASE. Her grandfather was from Germany, settled in Clearfield Co., Pa. and later moved to Thomas, W.V. My grandad, her father, was the first baby born in Thomas, W.V. I am very interested in working on our family tree and any information I can get would be greatly appreciated. Her dad was WILLIAM HENRY PASE, and her grandmother (who was also German) was ELIZABETH MILLER.

Thanks a bunch - Linda Guerrieri

[Webmaster - I responded to this query as follows:]

> Glad to post your query. I suggest there may have been some changing of names to American spellings. I speak German and have lived in Germany, and > the spelling Pase would be very unusual in that language. If it did exist, > it would be pronounced to rhyme (sort of) with the word "posse" as in "the sheriff's posse." The name Miller is English; in German it would be Müller, usually rendered in English as Mueller, since we don't have the umlaut ü, with the two dots over it, but lots of Germans changed it to Miller in this country. The closest I have found to Pase or Pace as a German name is the name Pass (pronounced like the first syllable of "posse". Have you tracked back the census records and the ship records?

Linda responded:

Thanks for your info. Yes, my great-grandmother was Elizabeth Mueller from Germany and my great-grandfather was Oscar Pase also from Germany.....I realize I have a bunch of work to do and I appreciate any hints I can get. They lived in Clearfield Co., Pa. then moved to Thomas, W.V. where my grandad, William Henry Pase, was the first baby born in Thomas (guess they were very early settlers there). I'm new at this so thans for bearing up with me....

From: jpace@bjservices.com (Jim Pace)

I am looking jfor the archive from EUNICE PACE, of Jackson Mississippi. I am her nephew. I know she was very active in the Pace Society, starting research into the Pace Family more than 40 years ago.

I came from ALTON GRINER PACE, His dad was JAMES POLK PACE, my Grand Father, WILSON REEVES PACE, my Great Grandfather, and WILSON PACE, my Great Great Grandfather.

JAMES POLK PACE married Mary ANN MAYBERRY, both of Centerville, Tenessee, before moving to Eutica Mississippi. They had eight children. They all lived to adulthood except for Estella Pace, born Oct. 22, 1903, died Oct. 4, 1904.

The other children were:

WILLIAM PACE (Billy), B. 2/12/1905, married EVELYNN SCOTT, christmas day, 1936, no children.

EUNICE PACE, B. June 8th, 1906, never married, founding member of the Pace Society ( I was told this but have no direct information.) Her life involved two parts. Nursing, she was a Professor in nursing, I think, at Old Miss. School of Nursing in Jackson and Being a Pace. She did much of the original research on the pace family, tracing it back to Europe. I have one of the Original Prints of the Family Crest she Uncovered. This is the same crest found on the opening page of this web page. Her house in Jackson was packed with papers and old records until there was just a path from the front door to the kitchen and bedroom.

AGNES PACE. B. Jan, 16th, 1909, Married HENRY GALLOWAY, 9/17/1938, no children.

JAMES POLK PACE JR, B 5/17/1911, MARRIED LILLIAN TWOMEY, 2/8/1936

ALTON GRINER PACE, B. 3/26/1913, Married IMA LEE UTLEY , 9/14/1943, My Dad

NELLE PACE, B. November 4, 1916, married BERT LEE CROPT, JR, 6/26/1937

CLARA PACE, B 6/21/1918, married JAMES O DUNGEN JR. 9/17/1938

If anyone can help me with this archive I would appreciate it.

I am looking for information on SARAH PACE that married ZACHARIAH RAY. The following is the only information that I have and it is unproven as of this date. I am going to KY and hope to verify some of it this this year.

Zachariah was b:1757 . He may have first been married to a MARY BENGE from NC. I know that she died prior to 1830 because he married a SUSAN ANDERSON on 8/22/1830. The last child born to Zach and Mary was about 1805. The actual date of Mary's demise has not been confirmed. If I assume that Sarah's birth year was 1788, then she could have been his second wife. A familytree CD shows the marriage of Zack and Sarah Pace.

I would appreciate any help that you may be so kind to share Thank you in advance, Paul

From: KevAsh@prodigy.net (Kevin Ash) (Query is from Kay Ash)

My name is Kay Ash and I am really enjoying research on our branch ofthe PACE family. I am currently stuck on my GGGrandfather, WILLIAM PACEwho was born in GA abt. 1822. WILLIAM had the following children, allborn in GA, by his first wife (name unknown): JULIA ANN b. abt. 1843,ANDREW b. abt. 1846, JAMES KNOX POLK b. June 19, 1847. WILLIAM thenmarried MARY ANN POLLARD in Marion County, GA on February 28, 1847.The following children came of that marriage: JOHN b. abt. 1850, MARYJANE b. abt. 1852, MARTHA ELIZABETH b. abt. 1853, SARAH (SALLIE) b.abt. 1855 and lastly, ALLISE b. abt. 1859 (must have died shortlythereafter). The first evidence I find of WILLIAM PACE is the 1850census for Marion County, GA. In the Alabama state census for 1856there is a WILLIAM PACE listed in Tallapoosa County, AL. The 1860 censusshows WILLIAM PACE and MARY in Marion County, AL (same county, different state). The 1865 Alabama state census shows MARY and thechildren and that two males died in the civil war from illness. The1870 Marion County, AL again shows MARY and the three girls. I have beenunable to determine which of the many WILLIAM PACE's who served in the civil war belongs to this family. Any information on WILLIAM would behelpful.

As to the rest of the family, MARY ANN POLLARD PACE moved for a shorttime to McNairy County, TN and then to Hill County, TX (approx. 1876)with her son JAMES KNOX POLK PACE (who married JOSEPHINE CLAUSEL,November 10, 1872 in Alcorn County, MS) and MARY JANE PACE WEST (whomarried NATHAN JOSEPH WEST on December 12, 1878 in McNairy County, TN).The three girls stayed in the MS area: JULIA PACE (who married PETERFRANKS on January 26, 1864 in Shelby County, TN), MARTHA PACE (whomarried JOHN FRANKS on October 18, 1871 in McNairy County, TN) andfinally, SARAH (SALLIE) PACE (who married Z. T. SWEAT on May 19, 1878 inMcNairy County, TN).

As to my relation to the above, I will begin with myself: KAY PHILLEYASH b. 1963, Dallas TX; DOROTHY PACE PHILLEY b. 1924, Dallas, TX;BENJAMIN FRANKLIN PACE b. January 13, 1889, Hill County, TX, d.September 30, 1968; JAMES KNOX POLK PACE b. June 19, 1847 in GA, d.October 5, 1916; WILLIAM PACE b. abt. 1822 in GA

Roy: I would be happy to give you my mailing address but I do want you to understand that I am not doing an extensive search on the Pace line. I am grasping at straws as I find the marriage of a Nancy Alexander to a "Pace". I am having a difficult time establishing information on one of my gr.gr.grandmothers---Mary Ramey Alexander Garland. I think you have probably been there before----having all these piece to a puzzle but they are just will not fit properly.

Perhaps finding the place of this marriage, that I mentioned above, will guide me to my "Mary". Nancy Pace is mentioned as Mary's daughter in her will of 1845 in Madison Co. Tn. but she was originally from Henry Co. Va.

In Henry Co VA. , there is a William Pace and a Newsom Pace that have property adjoining the Rameys. Perhaps this is a clue as well.

ANN PACE is listed as the daughter of RICHARD PACE III of Brunswick Co, VA. I have found enough evidence to prove that the Steward Ann married is my ancestor CHARLES STEWARD who lived in Brunswick Co, VA and Surry/Sussex VA. I also found a reference to them in Isle of Wight. Ann's sister married a House/Howse. My cousin, MaryAnn Mitchell, believes SARAH PACE married LAWRENCE HOUSE/HOWSE. These people were all very close. If anyone is interested, I can give references. I find a reference to Stewards/Paces/Cummins being in Middlesex Co and on the Middlesex Parish Register. Has anyone researched this Middlesex Parish Register and where might I see it? Peggy

Subj: Ann and Sarah Pace Date: 97-07-28 15:57:16 EDT From: gpgpubl@icok.net (PEGGY A. GIVENS) To:

For ten years I have been searching for clues to connect to my family of Stewards in Surry and Sussex Co's, VA. With the help of my cousin, Mary Ann Mitchell, we have compared records this summer to find husbands of Ann and Sarah Pace, daughters of Richard Pace III and his wife Rebecca Poythress. [Note controversy on the Poythress issue - click here for more info on this controversy. - Webmaster] The information provided on the family of RICHARD PACE III was provided by Miss Alice M. Lee of Alabama, who helped me construct the Stewart family some ten years ago.

>From data included in books by William Lindsay Hopkins: SURRY CO, VA, DEEDS 1684-1733 AND OTHER COURT PAPERS; SURRY COUNTY, VA, DEEDS AND ESTATE ACCOUNTS 1734-1755; AND SUSSEX CO, VA, DEED BOOKS A-E, 1754-MARCH 1779, we conclude that Ann Pace married Charles Stuart and that Sarah married Lawrence House.

CHARLES STUART'S will is found in BRUNSWICK CO, VA, WILL BOOK 3, P. 117. The family lived in Saint Andrew Parish, Brunswick Co, VA, at the time of Charles' will on 2 Dec 1752. He names his wife as Anne and his children as RICHARD, WILLIAM, JOHN, JAMES, REBECCA, ANNE, and SARAH.

The names LAWRENCE HOUSE, Richard Pace, CHARLES STUART, and THOMAS AVENT appear many times involving deeds of property of these people and others of Surry and Sussex Counties, VA.

Mary Ann and I descend from WILLIAM STUART/STEWARD, son of Charles and Anne Pace Stuart, who married MARY SHANDS. Their children WERE JAMES, WILLIAM, JOHN, THOMAS, CHARLES, ANN, FRANCES, ELIZABETH REBECCA, and CHARLOTTE (Scota). Scota married (1) JOHN MITCHELL and (2) PETER CAIN, Jr.

I am seeking the parents of CHARLES STUART. In the Parish Register of Middlesex VA, I find the names STEWARD/T, CUMMINS, and PACE. All of these are interrelated families of mine. The Paces were in Middlesex Co earlier than in Charles City. Has anyone read the Middlesex Parish Register who could give me a clue to the family of Charles Stuart? gpgpubl@icok.net (PEGGY A. From: DeanRT@aol.com (Dean R. Thilgen)

Roy,

It's been many months since I first wrote you. Since then I've been to Goochland County and... I still can't figure it out. So, here's my query:

--------

It appears I descend from two different women named Mary PACE from Goochland County, Virginia. Speculation suggests they were aunt and niece.

The first Mary PACE was the wife of John WRIGHT. From what others have shown, she was the daughter of John PACE and Anne BASFORD.

The second Mary PACE was the wife of the Rev. William BASKETT of Fluvanna County, Virginia. The March 1971 Bulletin states "she was probably the oldest daughter of John." Can anyone advance that further?

If in fact the two were aunt and niece, my great, great grandparents would have been third cousins, twice removed. They were John E. NICHOLS, b. 17 Jan 1827, Bedford County, Virginia, and Ruth Elizabeth WILSON, b. 11 Aug 1825, Hardin County, Kentucky. They were married 5 Apr 1849, Hardin County, Kentucky.

John E. NICHOLS descends from Mary PACE and John WRIGHT (d. 1814), John WRIGHT (d. 1826) and Susannah HUDNALL, Nancy WRIGHT and Achilis NICHOLS.

Ruth Elizabeth WILSON descends from Mary PACE and William BASKETT, Susannah BASKETT and Warren CASH, Clayborne CASH and Elizabeth STRAUGHAN, Mary CASH and Jonathan WILSON.

subj: PACE/BEDDINGFIELD

Date: 97-06-26 15:09:14 EDT

From: talbotdl@sbac.edu (DeeDee Talbot)

My name is DeeDee Talbot and have just started researching the GLOVER/PACE/BEDDINGFIELD line of my family. I live in Florida and have not been able to travel to NC to do research. As far as I know the lines below lived in and around Henderson County, NC.

I am looking for information on Martha Alice PACE (B. 1857) she married Jasper (or James) Edward BEDDINGFIELD (B 1858). One of their children--Origa Isabell (B 11/28/1879) Married John H. GLOVER (B 1/13/1879). One of their children (my grandmother) was Lilly Anna Belle (B 10/29/1910). Origa and John Glover had two children who had hemiphilia (bleeding disease) one of which died when she was three years old.

The only other information I have is that Martha's parents were, I believe, Hiriam K. Pace (B 1826) and Mariah Freemam (1835).

Subj: BENJAMIN LANGFORD, MARTHA "PATSY" PACE Date: 97-06-11 02:41:03 ED From: T Noye@aol.com

I am researching a THOMAS GARDNER, b. 1800 in VA. Thomas was the son-in-law of MARTHA "Patsy" PACE and BENJAMIN LANGFORD of Greenville District, SC, being married to their daughter SINAI LANGFORD circa 1821.

Thomas and Sinai appear in Pope Co., AR circa 1827-1838. Children were ELIZA, MARTHA, MARY and ELLIS MILTON GARDNER. SINAI (PACE) GARDNER died circa 1833. Thomas then remarried to ELENA PACE, who was the daughter of MARY LYNCH and Francis PACE, also from Greenville District of SC. FRANCIS PACE and MARTHA "PATSY" (PACE) LANGFORD were siblings, and SINAI and ELENA PACE were first cousins. Francis and Mary Pace had migrated to Pope Co., AR to be near the relatives.

Two more children were born to THOMAS and ELENA, WILLIAM M. and SARAH. By 1839 this family was in Fannin Co., TX.

In 1840 THOMAS GARDNER received a land grant from the Republic of TX, with witnesses WILLIAM B. PACE and JAMES WILLIAMS. An ALFRED PACE is also listed on tax rolls in this area, same time.

My 3rd great grandfather was JAMES EDEN WILLIAMS, the witness on the above land grant.

By the 1850 federal census these folks were all listed on the Milam/Williamson Co., TX census. Thomas and Elena had four additional children, THOMAS Jr, JOHN PACE, ELIZABETH, and MANSEL MATTHEW GARDNER.

My James E. WILLIAMS sold some land in Bell Co., Tx in 1851, and Alfred PACE witnessed the transaction. In 1853 James sold his land in Williamson Co., TX to Thomas GARDNER.

My James left TX for CA in 1854, but the GARDNER's and PACE folks stayed on in TX.

These 3 families, PACE, GARDNER, WILLIAMS, all had very close ties both in TX and previous. I am hoping someone may have heard of this line of PACE folks previously, and be able to shed some light on this. Ultimately I am searching for the parents and siblings of my James Eden WILLIAMS. I suspect that he somehow descends from one of these lines.

I understand that Kinchen PACE, son of William PACE and Ruth LAMBERT, married a Nancy WILLIAMS. Might anyone have any information on Kinchen and Nancy, especially Nancy's line? [webmaster's note: this linformation relates to the Tennessee Pace page; click here to go to that page.]

I have traced back to JASPER PACE b. 1860 supposedly in Kentucky (m. Rachel Hensley in 1880). They lived in Harlan County, KY and had the following children: HENRY GILBERT PACE b. 1882; ABERHAM PACE b.1886; EDWARD PACE b.1885; POLLEYAN PACE b. 1893 MARTHA PACE b. 1896; ELIZABETH PACE b. 1899.

Jasper's son HENRY GILBERT PACE m. Judy Hensley. They lived in Harlan Co. also and had the following children: JASPER PACE b. 1907. BYRD PACE; WOODROW PACE; DELIA PACE; EMMA PACE; RACHEL PACE; PAUL PACE b. 1913 in Lee County, VA.

My grandfather was Paul Pace. What I would like to know is the name of Jasper's father and mother. I found Jasper in the Harlan County 1900 Census and it says that his father was born in Kentucky and his mother in Virginia. I was also told by an elderly relative that Jasper's father was named FRENCH PACE and that there was "French and Indian blood in the family." (Jasper's son, Henry Gilbert, certainly looks non-European in his photo.) French could possibly be a nickname. I do not have access to any KY censuses after 1850. If I can just find out who Jasper's father was, I can trace them back from there. (I have quite a bit of info on the Paces in Harlan during the earlier part of the 1800s and in 1870.) Any information would be greatly appreciated!

Sheila Jean Lynch,

Regarding your query on ANDREW PACE. I am from the southwest part of Humphreys County TN, just north of the Perry County line. I am a descendant of WILLIAM PACE (b. 1750) who migrated to Rutherford county from Georgia. His sons settled in Hickman, Perry and Humphreys Counties. Look on the Pace Home Page, Queries before 11/96 for information on my line and request for information. J. R. Cox is also researching this family and has a query there. Bruel Bowen is researching this family also and has a query. (Since I am trying to keep my query current I wish Roy would move it up with the current listing.) [Webmaster's note: I wish I could move all queries up, as all are supposed to be current. I have split the pages only because they load slowly when they get too big, and I assume folks who have read the older queries don't need to load them each time. All newcomers to the Network should carefully read both sets of queries. But I will do even better. I have set up a separate page for Tennessee Paces, particularly descdendents of William Pace-ruth Lambert. Click here to go there. I will leave these queries on the main pages for awhile as duplicates. Eventually they will only be on the separate page, to save space.]

I have some additional information on this family and would like to exchange information with you. My postal address is 404 Meadow View Drive, Huntsville, AL 35802-2426.

I look forward to hearing from you.

My name is CAMERON PACE from Springfield, Missouri. I am interested in finding information about a line of Paces from El Dorado Springs, Missouri. My great-grandfather was JOHN DAVIS PACE who married ANNA JONES sometime between 1895-1900. My grandfather, CHARLES ISAAC PACE was born in El Dorado Springs in 1905. They all moved to Moberly, MO just before the Depression to farm. Before this, John Davis Pace operated a small general store at a crossroads just south of El Dorado Springs. This crossroads had a church, his store, and a few houses. This area had so many Paces living nearby that it was nicknamed Pacetown. This is based on the memories of my grandfather's who told it to my father. If anyone has any information about these or related Paces in this area, please email me at cpace02@mail.orion.org. From: djholcom@gower.net (Delma Holcombe)

THOMAS JEFFERSON PACE, born abt 1819 in GA. and wife ADELINE moved to Bibb Co. Alabama before the civil war. They had 12 children. One daughter married in 1861 to C. D. CLIFTON. There were 8 other daughters, who I do not know who they married. Right after the war, they moved as so many Southern people did. I have no idea where, as I have not been able to find them anywhere. The family story says one of the daughters, unmarried had a child, in 1864/65, the father being a soldier in the war.

I found Thomas in the 1840 Troup Co. GA. census, and in 1860 they were in Bibb Co Ala. After that nothing. The married daughter and her family were in Tuscaloosa in the 1870s, and after that I havn't found them either.

Any help on this family would be appreciated. I have a PACE Genealogy Book, "PACE, Your Family and Mine" by Joseph V. Pace, with an index, and would be happy to look up anything in return. I keep hoping I can tie into it somewhere. Thanks!

In 1837, his widow and most or all of their 7 children - daughters ELIZABETH (married JAMES BENNING, JR.), MARY (JENNINGS), MAHALA (married HUGH DILLARD), AMERICA (COOK), and sons NEWSOME, DAVID THOMAS (my GGGF) and ? - moved to Pike Co., MO. There must be a link with one of the earlier Newsomes, but I haven't been able to decide which one and where. Any help in solving this puzzle will be greatly appreciated.
Note: My grandmother's records refer to him as "Joel", but the original marriage record says Joseph. Thanks, Judith Renwick

From: AC4189@aol.com (Ann Cummings in Vista, CA)

In Georgia, Washington County, JOHN C. PACE, born 1825, Georgia, married first MARY O'QUINN, married second MERTILLA VEAL in 1854.

His son JOHN C. PACE, JR., born 1855, married ALICE FLORENE __________(?) born 1857 South Carolina. They went to Apopka, Florida by 1880.

Need parents of JOHN C. PACE, SR., his father born in North Carolina, and the last name of Alice Florene. The last name was possibly WARTHEN?

This post is for my mother, the genealogist in the family. Her name and address:

Priscilla F. Cummings, 1519 Alta Vista Drive, Vista, CA 92084, (619) 758-7218

(NOTE: Priscilla was able to answer her own question; see below)

I found the father of PACE, JOHN C. b 1825 Washington County, Georgia.

Salt Lake City had a book by Tad Evans on the newspaper clippings from Washington County, Georgia. An obituary for William Pace who died age 86 in Gordon, Wilkson County, Georgia 1874 was included and another entry said:

MR. WILLIAM PACE, father of JOHN C. PACE, Esquire, of this county (Washington) died at Gordon on the 9th in the 86th year of his age.

WILLIAM PACE was the son of NATHANIAL PACE and AMELIA MILDRED BOYKIN Pace. His wife was NANCY MOSES b. 1807, daughter of WILLIAM MOSES and Delphia. The children of Nathanial Pace and Mildred Boykin are from the Bible of Dr. Edwin Alan of Milledgeville, Georgia in which William Pace was born September 28, 1788. This ties in with the line of Thomas Pace, Richard Pace, Richard Pace, George Pace, and Richard Pace who came with his wife , Isabella Smith, to James City, Virginia in early 1600's.

The wife of JOHN C. PACE, JR., b Sept. 1855 in Washington, Georgia, was ALICE LAVEIGNE b. 1857 Collecton, S.C. She was the daughter of JAMES LAVEIGNE and his wife MARTHA, both of South Carolina.

I would be interested in any information regarding my grandfather whom we knew as WALTER PACE, son of ORA MATHESS (father's name not mentioned). Walter was probably born about 1895 - 1900, his place of birth is listed as Blue Ridge (no province, state or territory). He died about 1955 or 1956 in Calgary, Alberta. During his lifetime he worked for the Canadian National Railroad (probably as a dispatcher) in both Medicine Hat and later in Calgary.

He married WINNIFRED JEAN (JENNY) SHANNON in Piapot Saskatchewan about 1916. They lived in Medicine Hat, Alberta Canada (later in Calgary, Alberta) and had 5 children, (in no particular order), ORA, ALICE, LUCY, EUGENE and WILLIAM.

I am the only daughter of WILLIAM JAMES SHANNON PACE (now deceased) and WANDA JUNE HENDERSON.

I'm researching the Pace family name in Barren County, Kentucky. This is what I have so far. All of the Paces that are listed here are from Barren County, KY. We think that James Pace came into Cumberland County, KY from Western VA and later homesteaded in Barren County, KY.

[This next name, James Paces' father, is uncertain. We think we have his gravesite on a neighbors farm in Barren County, KY.] Joseph Pace, is believed to have come to KY from Goochland County, VA in 1812.

I have not been able to connect any of these Paces' to any of the Paces on your website. I believe our line of Pace came out of or around Goochland County, VA. Could I get some help on this?

Subj: Ida PACE Date: 97-02-03 02:54:10 EST, From: LSMontoya@aol.com

Hi. I submitted a query about 3 days ago, looking for the identity of my great- grandmother's parents. Since that time, I located her family in the 1880 Iowa census. They are:

(From the 1880 federal census in Pottawattamie Co., Iowa; Neola Twp:)

John Pace, age 54 (b.1826) in VA
wife Elizabeth, age 37 (b.1843) in OH
son Charlie, age 17 (b. 1863) in IA
dau. Ida, age 12 (b. 1868) in IA
son Andrew, age 10 (b.1870) in IA
son Heny T. (Henry?) age 5 (b.1875) in IA

John Pace's occupation is listed as farmer. I have not found any other reference to any of this family, except Ida PACE, after she married my grea-grandfather, Robert BROWN. Does anyone recognize this family? Any help would be appreciated.

Ida PACE is said to have been part indian - possibly Cherokee. It is not known if the indian blood is from the PACE side or from her mother's side. (My grandfather looked exactly like the indian on the old indian-head nickels.)

Does anyone recognize this family? I need to know where in VA to look for info on John PACE? What is Elizabeth's maiden name?

Subj: Ida PACE - Update Date: 97-07-02 15:21:20 EDT

I submitted a query in February 1997 regarding my great-grandmother, Ida PACE. I have recently received new information, and want to update my query.

Ida PACE's father, my gg-grandfather, was John PACE, born August 31, 1828, in Virginia, died October 17, 1911 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. According to the death record, John PACE's father, my ggg-grandfather was also John PACE, and his birthplace was also Virginia.

My gg-grandfather John PACE married Elizabeth BALL about 1856. Elizabeth BALL was born about 1838, probably in Ohio.

My name is RICHARD DALE PACE DOB 7-30-47. I have been researching the PACE family for some time but haven't been able to get very far. Thought you might be able to help.

My father, JOE WILLIS PACE DOB 10-9-1922 born Senath, Missouri to HUBERT EDWARD PACE DOB 10-17-1899 IN MISSOURI and KATIE ELIZABETH LOCKARD DOB 12-6-1901. My ggf JOHN PACE DOB 1-10-1874 born in Tennessee died on 1-3-1941 in Senath, Missouri. Possible connection to JOHN PACE might be IRA PACE.

Hope someone is able to help. Richard D. Pace: pacerich@intellinet.com 611 West Poplar St , Paragould, AR 72450

Response from Bruce Howard
To: Richard Dale Pace = pacerich@intellinet.com From: Bruce Howard

Richard: Try looking in Carroll County, Tennessee for your Ira Pace. They are living there in the year 1880. Then I believe if you work back from there to Humphries County you will find Ira's parents in 1850. You should be able to connect William Pace, the father of Ira, to Drury Pace. Once you satisfy yourself on these points then you can redo your query and see where it goes from there.

I want to continue my search for relatives of ABSLOM & EDWARD PACE. Any help on them and their relatives would be wonderful. My address is 355 STEALEY RD. WENTZVILLE, MO. 63385

To: Kathryn Ann Bixler From: Bruce Howard

Kathryn: I have some informaiton for you concerning your ancestor, Absalom Pace, and his parents. Absalom was born in Lee County, Virginia. His parents were Edmund Pace and Frances "Frankie" Smith. Frankie was the second wife of Edmund Pace. They were married in Guilford County, North Carolina on October 3, 1833. Edmund Pace was born in the year 1804 in Johnston County, North Carolina not South Carolina. His parents were Stephen and Lucy Pace.

According to Mrs. Marian Ray Dunlap of Illinois, Edmund was married previously, but did not give the name of this wife, and by her had at least two children, Elizabeth Jane Pace and John Pace. His children by Frankie are, William A., Edwin, Absalom, George W., Mary, Nancy and Stephen. You will find this family living in Lee County, Va., in 1840, 1860, 1870 and 1880; in Claiborne County, Tenn. in 1850. Mrs. Dunlap has several records on this family, among which is his will probated in Lee County in 1885 and the final settlement of the estate in 1889. She descends from Elizabeth Jane Pace Watkins, the oldest daughter. I would advise you to contact her for further information. Her address is Rt. 5, Box 39A, Effingham, Illinois 62401.

By the way, the name Edmund in this branch of the family, at least, was used interchangeably with Edmond, Edwin and Edward. There must be some logic to it that someone else may know about. Edmund of Lee County, Va., was named for a brother of his father, Rev. Edmund Pace of Surry County, N.C. The Rev. Pace also, at different times, went by Edwin and Edward, but mostly by Edmund. That is the way it appears in the records at various times. Go figure!

Keep us posted on your findings.

Bruce

Subj: Unrelated Pace Line WILLIAM PACE (1828-1908) from Prussia Date: 97-01-19

From: 75573.2416@CompuServe.COM (Eric D. Lund)

The following is a line of Paces unrelated to the majority of your queries and correspondence. Hopefully, however, someone has run into them in research in Ohio, Illinois or Michigan. I would be pleased to receive or share any information. I seek record of origin and arrival of WILLIAM PACE (1828-1909), who may have taken this name when he arrived from Prussia (now Germany) ca. 1847. He first settled in Port Washington, Coshocton, Ohio. On 6 Feb. 1851 he married LOUISA PEES/PEASE who died between 1857 and 1860. Early records do not discriminate between Pees and Pace and variant spellings. William and Louisa had two children--MARY CATHERINE PACE (ca. 1855-1919) and ELIZABETH PACE (b. ca. 1857, probably died in early childhood). Mary Catherine married FREDERICK NASTELSKE (1843-1893) on 21 Sept. 1873 and eventually moved to Michigan. I am descended from one of their seven children, MARTHA MALINDA NASTELSKE (1882-1946). WILLIAM PACE was remarried to Mary ELIZABETH SMITH/SALM/SAHM (1838-1924) on 1 April 1860. They had eleven children, nine of whom survived to maturity:

(Note: the names of the eleven children, plus responses from Bruce Howard and yours truly, the Webmaster, are on a separate page due to length. There is much information about the possible origin of the name Pace in German. Click here to go there. )

Mary was living at that time(1812 when the will was written). Nainsai@aol.com sent me some information on the parents of MARY PACE (1744 - 1815) and she listed them as JOSEPH I PACE and ANN BASFORD PACE or JOHN II PACE 1722 - 1759 and SUSANNA HOUCHINS Pace 1741 - 1808 and she is their daughter MARY PACE 1744 @Goochland VA.
