Christopher Stump Pace and Margaretta (Woods) Pace



My gg grandfather, Christopher Stump Pace was b. 12/29/1809 in Davidson Co, TN, d. 4/19/1892 Bentonville, AR, m. Margaretta M. Woods b. 2/24/1815 Rowan Co, NC, d. 6/23/1895 Bentonville, AR.

He was a son of Alsey Pace b. 1781 and Sally Stump b. abt. 1780.

Alsey was a son of William Pace, Sr. b. abt 1747 in Halifax Co, NC. m. Sisley Walker, d. 1845 Montgomery Co, TN.

William was a son of George Pace b. 1711 in VA, d. bef. 1786 in NC, m. Patience. Christopher and Margaretta were among the first settlers in Benton Co, AR. It is said that his son, Milton Pace, was the first white boy born in Benton Co, AR. An obit from the Bentonville Sun said, "There died in this city... an old and respected citizen who had been one of our 'old land marks' and who could entertain a person well with scenes and incidents about this country over half a century ago. That citizen was Mr. Christopher S. Pace, familiarly known as 'Uncle Kit.' He was well known throughout Benton county and had been in business in this city many years before old age compelled him to retire..." It is not known when this tintype photo was taken, but if he was 60 at the time it would be about 1869.
