William
J. Pace was born July 2, 1844, in Newton County, Mississippi.
He was a veteran of the Confederate Army, having fought at Gettysburg
and the Battle of the Wilderness. He married Olive Wilder in 1866, and
moved to Bell County, Texas in 1868. They were charter members of the
First Baptist Church of Temple. Their children were Lula, a Professor
of Botany and Geology at Baylor University, Pearl, a music teacher,
Annie, a writer for a New York paper, and Robert. William died October
18, 1915. All are buried at Hillcrest Cemetery in Temple, Texas.
My Great Grandfather William John Lee Pace left Newton County when he was
15 and stayed with his cousin William J. until he struck out on his
own. This photo was passed down to me. Lineage for William J. Pace:
James Dempsey Pace and Amelia Gregory, John Pace and Elizabeth Jones, John
Pace and Sarah Burge, etc.
