Jesse James Pace

This is my grandfather, Jesse J. Pace.  Born in January 1879, he descends from John R Pace (22 Dec 1853), John Richmond Pace (1829), Richmond Pace (1803) and then Jesse Pace.  The date of the photo is unknown.  I would appreciate anyone's knowledgeable guess with hopes the uniform may indicate.
