Subject: Barnabas Pace descendants-GA
I am trying to find out what happened to the sons of Barnabas Pace, b. abt 1747 in NC, son of Richard Pace IV and Elizabeth Cain. Barbabas had 7 sons. Paris, Leroy and Thomas may be sons of his first wife, Agnes Aycock, all born before 1790.
John, Knowle (or Noel), Bazil and Dreadzil were probably born to his second wife, Mary Casey, after 1790.
It appears fairly certain that Paris is in Ogelthorpe Co, GA in 1850 with wife Mary Kitchen and 8 children and Bazil Pace is in Randolph Co, GA in 1850 with wife Clarcey Sheppard and one or two children.
I suspect that Dreadzil, Knowle and Thomas may have been in Troup Co in 1850. A Dreadzil is on the 1850 census there, age 45, with wife Martha A. and 6 children. A Knowle Pace, age 50 is also there with wife nancy and 9 children. There is a Thomas Pace, age 67, also in Troup Co 1850 living alone. I have no clue what happened to Leroy Pace and John Pace. Perhaps some of the answers are in the "Barnabas Pace Letter" which I haven't seen. Can anyone help with this? Thanks, Gordon W. Pace

5. Winefred PACE
6. Penelope PACE
That Hardy PACE married Lucy _______ and had the following children:
1. William Richard PACE

That James PACE married Mary DAVIS on March 28, 1824 and had the following children:
1. Ann PACE born January 25, 1825 and died December 18, 1896
2. Davis PACE born March 17, 1826 and died November 22, 1861
I will endeavor to pass along the PACE information I have found since moving to Albany, GA back in late September of this year.
First I found a book in the Macon, GA library entitled "40,000 marriage records" wherein I found many PACE marriage dates. Also found the complete 1800 Oglethorpe County, GA census records wherein was listed only one PACE family and that was for ISAAC PACE. (All this effort for my friend, Penelope Jane PACE, whose ancestor, DAVIS PACE, was mayor of Albany, GA in 1857.)
What I have found on DAVIS PACE born March 17, 1826, Twiggs County, GA:
(From the Albany paper dated Thursday, November 28, 1861.....Died in this city, on Friday the 22nd instant after a brief illness, DAVIS PACE, aged about 35 years.)
His father: JAMES PACE born May 18, 1796 and died April 6, 1834............
His mother: Mary Davis born April 26, 1807 and died November 12, 1885......
and they were married March 28, 1824........
(All from a PACE family bible handed down through DAVIS PACE's sister, Ann.)
MARY DAVIS PACE married on September 15, 1835 to WILLIAM WORTHY
MARY DAVIS PACE WORTHY married on July 10, 1849 to HUGH LAWSON
His sister: ANN PACE born January 25, 1825 and died December 18, 1896.....
(She married on August 22, 1839 to Dr. ALFRED NEWTON WORTHY in
Hawkinsville, Upson County, GA and he was a nephew of WILLIAM WORTHY.)
Marriages of DAVIS PACE:
1) December 24, 1844 in Laurens County, GA to SARAH ELIZABETH WILKINSON.....
(From the Albany paper dated Friday, May 21, 1852....Died....On the morning of the 18th instant, at the house of Maj. JOHN F. SPICER, where she had gone on a visit, after a lingering illness, Mrs. SARAH E. WILKINSON, consort of DAVIS PACE, Esq. of Albany, Ga in the 26th year of her age. She leaves a husband and two little children to deplore her loss.) There is a single monument in the Oakview Cemetery, Albany, GA to both SARAH E. WILKINSON PACE and her only brother, JOHN SPICER WILKINSON, but I suspect that they were both buried in a family plot on the SPICER plantation.....which to date I have not found.
2) May 31, 1853 in Buena Vista, GA by the Rev. J. PERRYMAN to JULIA ANNE WILKINSON COLEY the sister of his first wife and widow of ALLATIA COLEY......
(She brought to this marriage her daughter, EUGENIA ALLATIA COLEY, born February 12, 1846 in Dooley County, GA)
Children of DAVIS PACE:
1) JOHN WILKINSON PACE(From the Albany paper dated Thursday, Augsut 4, 1859...Died in this city, after a short illness, JOHN WILKINSON PACE, son of Mr. DAVIS PACE, aged 11 years, 5 months and 29 days.)
2) WILLIAM CHEEVER PACE
3) JAMES DAVID PACE
4) DAVIS PACE, Jr.
5) WILLIAM WILKINSON PACE, Sr. born April 26, 1860 and died May 24, 1941....
(My friend, Penny Pace is the daughter of WILLIAM WILKINSON PACE III.)
Burials:
DAVIS PACE is buried in Oakview Cemetery, Albany, Georgia along side his mother-in-law, MARY COLLIER SPICER WILKINSON PERRYMAN (She died December 18, 1860). His second wife, JULIA ANNE WILKINSON COLEY PACE McLAUREN is also there with her daughter EUGENIA ALLATIA COLEY BEALL CLARKE. Also buried beside DAVIS PACE is a JESSE S. BEALL, who served in the Spanish American War, son of EUGENIA A. COLEY BEALL CLARKE and COL. JESSE S. BEALL. (If anyone has any information on this Col. Jesse S. Beall.....how he might have been KIA during the conflict of 1861 to 1865....Dougherty County marriage records show the Beall/Coley marriage date of July 30, 1861....I would appreciate having it.)
I will send a second post listing those PACEs buried in the PACE Cemetery in Twiggs County, Georgia......
Sure appreciate the chance to share this information (especially with you and Bruce Howard) and to contact others interested in the PACE Family History....
